What I see are a couple of problem areas that can be solved with a bit of CP tweeking and/or postprocessing, while the Photoshop pano suffers hugely from color problems.

I think that the 5K problem is just emphasized by the Flash rendering (which is an obvious polygon problem), so in a way BOTH Alex and Klaus are right ;)

You could try setting the focal of the images to 1000 mm and use planar projecton.

Yes, but it's automatic. I also own a NN, but I rarely use it, as it is a hussle, especially when using different lens and a heavier body. With Girocam, the whole process of get out of the car, setup, shoot, get back in the car seems down to a minute or less. I takes 5 minutes to assemble the tripod...

The proper way to fill RAM slots *currently* is using 8GB sticks, not 4GB :) All *current* MBs support an amount of RAM equal to number of slots * 8GB.

Heh, 20nm 32GB DDR3 sticks are still under development, AFAIK. At least Samsung's.

Speaking of Macs, I've seen 96GB kit (6x16) for a "mere" $1600 by OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/8566D3Q16M96/ - pretty nice, I think! Still you'll have to have a newborn :D

Weird, in the last 6-7 years of intensive Autopano work, I've never had a hard drive problem. Or rattling hard drives, for that matter. I'm using only WD Blacks (500GB a few years back, 1TB now), no SSDs.

enfuseGUI took me minutes to get it working and haven´t fused in autopano ever since..... The problem is it won't do alignment of images. So with any handheld / no-panohead shots it does not work. In a perfect world I'd take 10 images freeform/handheld, then another 10 with different exposure and ...

OK, there's some confusion as it seems:

"motherboard with 6 slots for 24GB RAM"
"have only 4 ram slots, max 32GB"

Also, you can get 4 x 8GB sticks for like 400$ (Corsair XMS3) and I don't see the need to get server RAM (I presume you mean ECC?)

Choose the second, of course. But I wonder why only 24GB of RAM are possible? Most current MBs allow for 32GB! What brand/model is the MB in that configuration? Also, if you have time to wait, it is said AMD Bulldozer with 8 cores will be available by the end of the year and with a similar price to ...

Instead of listening to those two high-rollers with their unlimited budgets... I'd like to add a few things about your proposed config. CPU: Get the best SandyBridge CPU you can. No point in going down the Xeon lane, unless you're made of money or charge thousands of Euro for a single shot... DO NOT...

Just a quick intermission: you DO NOT NEED special gear for panoramas, especially for a hobbyist. Just find some time to spend in the nature (why not bring the family along?) and take some photos. Panoramas do not mean panoheads and robots and gadgets. They mean a different way to look at the world....

IMHO, the shots above show HUGE amount of unnecessary overlap. Especially the first one - I think you can use one on every 3 or 4 images. So the total number to process will go down dramatically.

Maybe a drop-down menu on the main window with different setting presets and selecting one would make the changes? That should probably work (be enabled) only if there are no pano groups open, so it won't mix any settings in those. Even if it requires restart, that's OK, just pop an alert, close Aut...

It should be possible to "set the preset" on a more general level. For example, if I'm back from an aerial shoot, I'll work on 30 or 50 panoramas of the same kind. No need to set all those one by one manually. Kind of "switch Autopano to aerial pano mode" and "switch Autopano to landscape mode".

Autopano remembering/caching images in pano groups?

How to reproduce: Use Lightroom to export 1MP versions of some RAW files. Drop the resulting TIFFs in APG, detect a pano, see it's ok. Do not close APG. Use LR to export full res TIFFs of the same RAW files, replacing the 1MP versions. Drop the full res TIFF in APG. Autopano sees those full res file...

Following Alexandre's suggestion in the FRUSTRATION thread, I'm posting a separate topic, just to see where this goes and if it is of any help. Not only that, but PTGUI 9.x includes masking as well - a feature we talked about on these forums years ago! With the passing of time it seems Autopano turns more to the huge giga-panos, robots, shooting automation, but leaves behind the simple several-handheld-shots-in-"auto"-mode panos. Currently ...

Just wanted to reiterate, that I too miss the "auto" part from the old days. By exposing more and more options in the interface, combined with not good enough defaults, resulted in problems with my workflow, mainly color correction and blending since 2.5. I don't need comprehensive manual or how-to ...
