When I first got the Skywatcher/Merlin/Orion head, I was all revved up to buy an external battery. I didn't get around to it and have found it last a long, long time on the internal AAx8 battery pack. I have shot ~650+ image panos in the field and it was still going just fine. I test-ran it for abou...

Is this still Mac OS X 10.5 only? I tried it on 10.4 and got this in the Console: 2009-05-03 20:40:58.413 papywizard[375] A Python runtime could be located. You may need to install a framework build of Python, or edit the PyRuntimeLocations array in this application's Info.plist file. I know I have ...

The other limitation is that a 32 bit app will use at most (roughly) 50% of physical memory (a little bit less). So between the rule of 2GB / 50% max, if you have 4GB in your machine, you won't even get to use the 2GB that the app could theoretically address. The 64 bit version doesn't have these l...

Another problem: APP2 seems to have a "one track mind" so to speak. If it is detecting panos while I am editing some other pano already detected, if I try to optimize, etc, nothing happens until it has finished detecting, then it does my optimization, then it goes on to the next detection. This was...

Hello, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit scroll down a bit or here: http://www.iac.es/sieinvens/siepedia/pmwiki.php?n=Tutorials.32vs64bits Sigi Thanks for the links, but I am somewhat aware of the pros and cons in general. These two articles do the usual waffling about how it may or may...

Same here on the Circular Crop: solid grey. The "Clean Bad Control Points" button seems to be disconnected most or all of the time (same thing in APG beta.) Another problem: APP2 seems to have a "one track mind" so to speak. If it is detecting panos while I am editing some other pano already detecte...

This BT adaptor from Andreas Bà¶hme is excellent, I have one in test at this moment and , "big secret", it will probably become "the reference" for PapyMerlin in Europe after some modifications that Andreas and myself are discussing at this moment ! I can't seem to find any reference to this Blueto...

The tiger 32 bits version is 32 bits and will work on both 10.4 and 10.5 but only in 32 bits. The leopard version is 64 bits but will work only under leopard. It might be a good idea to put this on the downloads page. The wording there got my hopes up that 64 bits worked on both 10.4 and 10.5 in th...

I'm very impressed by the rendition of the sky with all those missing control points. One of the many virtues of papywizard, I guess. In your successful rendering with RC2 what blend algorithm did you use? What is the final pixel size of the pano, and what format did you save in? Finally, are you r...

RC1. I have downloaded RC2 and it rendered the pano successfully. I'm loving APG :D Seriously, I was stunned at how well it imported using Papywizard data and found control points; there were no spurious CPs in the sky even :) One optimization and BAM! it was perfect

Substitute tiff for jpeg in existing project?

This is a project in APG RC2, but the question is general, so I figured I should ask it here. I have a large pano (396 images) where I developed my RAW files as jpeg instead of tiff so that hopefully everything would be faster and more responsive in APG (at least I assume that would be the case.) Af...

Another Papywizard success!

I went back to a recent location to re-shoot when the light was better and the sky was blue. 396 shots in RAW, controlling my SkyWatcher/Merlin and camera via Bluetooth from a Nokia N800. The pano looked perfect after a Papywizard import into APG RC1, even without optimizing. The first picture is th...

Merlin head gone wild!

So, there I was, shooting a very large (approximately 400 positions) pano, with 3 bracketed shots at each position. Right in front of my eyes, the Merlin suddenly goes zipping through about a 20° horizontal move that certainly wasn't supposed to be there! Each normal step is ~3°. The sun was very hi...

Of course, driving to nearly the top of a mountain is pedestrian compared to the solution at Chimney Rock, NC. After getting near the top, there is an elevator to the top! The location was the summit of Mount Mitchell in North Carolina, USA, the highest point east of the Mississippi River - elevation 6089' (1856 m). Papywizard import into APG B1 and RC1 works flawlessly :D The biggest problem was that the air was not as clear as I had hoped. Very nice. Did you use an...

Nokia N800. I got that one when my Nokia 770 died the White Screen of Death. I let my wife borrow it about a week ago; she likes it so much that I have to fight her for it when I want to use it for shooting panos!

Another Merlin gigapixel pano

Wanted to share my latest gigapixel pano made with my Merlin and Papywizard. 584 shots (about 2 hours shooting), final size 151,678 by 23,003 pixels (3.5 gigapixels), FOV about 156° wide and 23° high. Shot with a Nikkor 300mm f/4.5 on a Fuji S2Pro. The location was the summit of Mount Mitchell in No...

I will try to make a sticky note on what is a good configuration to run APG 2. Hardware - Video Card Our GPGPU system put these constraints on the hardware : * OpenGL 2.0 or over * Minimal number of texture unit : 2 * needed opengl feature : GL_ARB_texture_float, GL_ARB_texture_rectangle, GL_EXT_fr...

I would be interested in a replacement crown, if such can be delivered at an affordable price. I would like it if the last bit were an Arca-Swiss type clamp and a rail that can slide in and out. Any functional equivalent woulde be fine as well. My Fuji S2 might not be able to get into the NPP even ...

OTOH it looks a bit sad doing such projects with a Merlin..... :) Even sadder if you see my messy servo rigging to push the shutter release (my Fuji S2 doesn't have an electronic release :( ) Still, my end result looks nice. I may show it here soon (but, shhh, don't tell anyone I actually stitched ...

For longer than 100-130mm@FF a crown modification is not needed and even the standard merlin L bracket can be used with lenses with lenscolars. With the Merlin L, enough adjustments can be made. grtz! I think this is true if you are shooting something far away. However, my project today was to unde...
