The conventional wisdom is to do sharpening last because you have to sharpen after you resize the image for print/web.

However, there is some discussion that you should do a preliminary sharpening also, especially when converting from RAW.

The owner of that "tacky environment" has open air cinemas around the world - even in Melbourne and Sidney  . . http://www.cinerent.ch/pages/index.php and it´s everything else but "tacky". Look at Basel, Bern and Zuerich to see how they integrated our panoramas. More are to follow - "tacky" ...

Hi Klaus, You say 7 to 9 steps--is this 1 Ev apart? And sometimes its nice to put a remote strobe in an alcove or another room. Imagine you shoot a living room with a hallway that you see at an angle (you don't see all the way down it, just a couple of meters of one side of it). Sometimes putting a ...

Another technique is to use a monopod (or a stick, etc), hold the camera on top of it at what you think the NPP is, and try and keep the monopod straight.

My cellphone is about 1/4" or 3/8" of an inch thick, so finding about where the NPP is is not a problem.

That's the current devplan if nothing hits us with too strong requirement.

Will it be 18% grey (eg halfway between white and black?)

The focal estimation is really a hard job when having partial panorama. A small variation of focal doesn't affect at all the RMS. The optimizer really needs a large variation of the focal to see that in the focal dimension, it reached an optimum. In practice, the result of that is some variation of...

Are you using a panohead and have you set up the NPP correctly? APP has to guess at the lens length, and if the NPP of the lens moves, then APP may guess a different focal length. Imagine shooting an arc of a circle. APP assumes the size of the circle, and that the NPP is at the center of the circle...

I think that the right side of the white building in the middle is larger than the left side. The front of the roof matches, the back does not. You can try: putting a bunch of CPs on both the front and the rear of the roof (and enabling lens distortion) and also try resizing the image by using the m...

One issue that made me shoot from left to right is that pattern tightens the head on the tripod, if you go the other way, you could loosen it. And I go left to right, then up and down because my panohead has click stops in the yaw direction, where pitch is an infinity adjustable (ie non-repeatable) ...

Hi Klaus, This is a problem for me also. Sometimes a bad link will cause APP to pick a bad focal length (over 2x or under 1/2 of what it should be) and there's no way that I've found to correct it. My many posts on "closing the circle" (ie telling APP that the pano should be circular or spherical) d...

The RAM speed and technology could also contribute to the overall speed of the pano. Its not just the clock speed, but the number of wait-states, how the memory is configured (shared between processors or dedicated to one processor) etc can make a difference. Note that to get 16 threads, you need at...

Smartblend just covers up errors. If you have too much of an error, or too many errors, it doesn't do a good job.

Using Smartblend to cover a big error is like putting lipstick on a pig.

OK, so we need more overlap to reduce vignetting. But we need less overlap to get a better stitch.

I think we need a way to specify where APP should look for CPs. see http://www.autopano.net/forum/t11003-overlap-minimizer

If you shoot RAW, you can set the AWB to whatever you want if you use a RAW converter other than APPs. (Do I mis-remember, or was there some way to change the default parameters of the RAW converter APP uses?). Very often, AWB works fine for me outdoors. Indoors, with mixed lighting, depending on th...

We need a way to tell APP to recalculate the focal lenths (perhaps even reset them from the EXIF data). Sometimes a bad link or missing link will cause a big error.
