The patent covers all uses, not just the software manufacturer. So patents in the US affect the US users of APP, European patents affect the European users, Japanese patents affect users in Japan, ... Assuming there is no patent in Europe, but there is one in the US, APP will not be bothered if they...

Sony bought what IPIX had left, and a revoked patent is something they don't have.

The patent was revoked in Europe, not the US.

8MM Fisheye

Judging by the way Alexandre's poll is going, fisheye support will be here soon. Any recomendations on a good fisheye lens for Canon EOS mounts? (This is for a 5D, so its FF) The Sigma is $644 and has AF, but I think that MF will be ok so long as there is a good DOF scale on the lens. At this focal ...

Please consider adding... Just so there's no confusion: Karl, this here is the personal list of Panorama Fanatic. It's not maintained by the developers and it not mandatory for what is going to be in APP. It just happens that in time Alexandre implements features that seem to correspond to what PF ...

Yes, this would be nice, so that I don't have to rotate the pano 90 decgrees and select the correct center point, etc, after optimization time and again.

Yes, this is the first thing I tried. But then you have to cut and paste. One problem is that the battleship is in the sun, while the boys are in the shade, so there is a great contrast between the two sets of pictures I want to use (IE I used autobracketing when taking the shot. Also, the focal poi...

I've tried another set of images, and this didn't work. Even though I had two images to make the battleship and eight copies of the group in front of it, smartblend removed the group and kept the battleship. So I guess I got lucky the first time.

As a former software engineer, the bricklayer analogy isn't too bad. The APP developers know what it takes to implement fisheye, just as the bricklayer knows what it takes to build a wall. But the bricklayers plans can be delayed by the unexpected: -soil is too weak, need deeper foundation -finds bi...

I'll differentiate between HDRI and tone-mapping. HDRI is building an image where each color (R,G,B) in each pixel can have more than 2**8 levels (or more than 2**12, or whatever number is right) and tone-mapping is squeezing those levels into a range that can be displayed on a monitor or can be pri...

Tourist inserter

I recently took a shot of a group in front of a Battleship, and had to take four shots of the battleship alone to get the whole thing in (couldn't back up far enough). So I have a four shot battleship pano, and another shot of the group with the battleship in the background. I found that by duplicat...

Film emulation / camera curves

Ano option to apply camera curves to get a "neutral" pano would be nice--that is, calibrate APP for each camera type sensor. This would be done by shooting some standard color chart, and determining how much R,G and B have to be changed to come up with a standard "neutural" curve. (Ulead photoimpact...

It would be nice to have a parameter in the layers editor to set how much that layer contributes to the blened pano. It would be nice to have masking, like in photoshop. Automatic masking based on blown/underexposed regions would also be nice. It would be nice to have the tourist remover/inserter, a...

GURL, I would like to see two levels of interface: Basic and Advanced. Ulead Photoimpact has this, and you can switch back and forth. I would probably leave things in advanced because I know it (as I do in photoimpact). An alternative would be to have a wizard that guides new users into building a p...

First, I think Alexandre has to tell us what APP is and where it is going. At first, I thought APP was only a stitcher, but it seems to do something with HDR. Will APP be a great stitcher with some HDR capability, or will the HDR capability be increased to compete with PhotoMatrix? The development p...

Igor's post caused me to think about APP. IMO, the casual user will use a "free" stitcher, like ULead 360, or photoshop or Canon's stitcher. Yes, PS is not free, but the stitcher is no extra cost. So people only buy APP when the free software does not do what they want it to. I found that APP was th...

I think a more usefull metric would be the distance the images are moved after the initial render--that is, where does the inital render put the imanges, and how far does the user move them in the link editor. Also, how many images are misplaced, that is, the inital render puts them in the wrong spo...

Jargon

I recently tried to describe where APP crashed, but didn't have the right words. What do we call:

1. the work done in the "left column" when you click the green start button afer importing files?
2. The work done in the “right column” after that?

Cropping reduce visible area only for sticihing, c.ps. can be used uotside of cropping area. Do you mean that the entire fisheye photo would be used for cp generation, and the cropped area would be used for blending? This is similar to another request where the blender should give more weight towar...

yes, this is a good idea!

Could APP also display an uncertainty factor as links are removed? This may be as simple as the ratio of the number of links removed to the total number of links. This would help us know when to recalculate the pano.

Hadn't thought about a hand-taken zenith. Guess you'd have to do this if you only had a circular pano head (one that only does one row and doesn't have the ability to tilt the camera). When APP adds fisheye support, this will become important, especially to those who use a full-frame sensor and an 8...
