Writing to disk

Hi ! I have noticed that during stitching, APG (versions 3 and 4.0.0 now, updating to 4.0.0 hasn't change anything) spends most of it's time writing the final result to the disk. I build only relatively small panos (perhaps 5 images from a 36 Mpix camera), and the stitching part itself is really fas...

New color correction

Hi,
I am interested in the vignetting and "Gradient correction" algorithms. Are they automatically activated ? Are there any parameters to control their behavior ?
Thanks !

Re: Serious problem with sky stitching with apg 3.7

And about those "well you could take better care in taking your pictures for the pano". Sure. But why have a super clever high tech blender then ? The role of the blender is to take all the imperfections in the picture (vignetting, different shutter speeds, WB differences, parallax,...) an...

Re: Serious problem with sky stitching with apg 3.7

Hi, I have been having similar problems with APG. I don't think the causes are the same as for the OP, but the symptoms are very similar: Color shifts and intensity variations in smooth skies, that are perhaps hinted in the original pictures, but get massively amplified by APG. For me the origin of ...

Re: Automatic file naming on Mac

Yes, I also use relative paths.
Hopefully someone at Kolor can have a look at this. It is *really* annoying, when you try to work in batch mode, and have to enter filenames for 50 files one after the other...

Automatic file naming on Mac

Hi, There is a strange bug in the way APG (I'm using 3.5.1, but the bug's been there for a while) fills in the name of a file in the "save" dialog on the Mac (10.9.3). Let me explain. When I have detected some panos, I end up (in the right pane) with a bunch of panos. Each pano is identifi...

Re: Can it be said that APG 3.5.0 is the best of the best??

Have you ever tried to use the Lens Correction Plugin where it cleans up the vignetting effect... No, because I think (may be I am wrong) the plugin relies on EXIF data to do a correction. My legacy lenses do not have EXIF data. Of course I could profile each lens, remember what aperture I used and...

Re: Can it be said that APG 3.5.0 is the best of the best??

For me, Autopano should be a tank. I really am not interested in Gigapixel images, but rather a robust way of doing a large number of panos of "small"-size (typically, I have only 3-10 images to stitch, but have 50-200 panos to stitch). So I really like the automatisation of APG, being abl...

Re: Can it be said that APG 3.5.0 is the best of the best??

Yes, I remember the good old days of smartblend. It was actually THE reasons I switched from PTAssembler to Autopano. At the time, Autopano provided flawless blends, even if there was vignetting (or other problems) with the original images. Also the automatic control point detection was much better....

Re: Can it be said that APG 3.5.0 is the best of the best??

Hi ! After testing 3.5Beta, do you think blending has been improved ? I thought that 3.0.8 was seriously lacking in that area, when the input images had vignetting (I use sometimes legacy optics, that do have vignetting - and LR correction before sending them to APG is a bit of an unnecessary and cl...

Re: Preserving setting with new APG version

Ok, I understand. It would be helpful though, if you could start both versions at the same time, to be able to copy / paste the settings from one window to the other (now I had to take notes on an archaic device called paper, to remember which %i%p%*&^%$.pano I wanted to use as a file naming con...

Preserving setting with new APG version

Hi, I don't know if this is a "bug or a feature". When I installed APG 3.5 beta 1, the new (beta) version didn't remember the settings I had in my old version (APG 3.0.8). This is a bit annoying, since I had to go to each config menu, and reconfigure APG, and tell it what file naming conve...

Re: Free Memory on Mac (Mavericks)

Well, I think the memory management of APG could be improved a bit. Perhaps one could "force" APG to use for example 80% of the memory detected. If the memory comes full because other programs are used, then the OS can still use swap. And the fact that the memory APG can use is measured at...

Free Memory on Mac (Mavericks)

Hi, I don't know if this is a Mac "problem", Autopano "problem" or just a feature of the Mac (or APG). I have two macs: - One (older) Macbook Air, with 4GB of RAM, under Mavericks - A newer Macbook, with 8GB of RAM, under Lion When I look at the free memory (under APG 3.0.8, Sett...

This looks quite similar:

I have no experience with this so it may not work as well as content aware fill.

Re: Content aware fill

I guess it depends who the target audience of Autopano is. If it's hard-core panorama experts, they will have Photoshop, and it doesn't matter where the feature is (and they may not screw up by forgetting to take the right picture). If it's casual users, they may not have PS, and then this tool beco...

Content aware fill

Hi, One thing which would be really useful, is a way to fill the black areas of a pano, originating from a missing picture. I'm sure you know the effect: you shoot something, and because of the projection or not 100% horizontal shooting, you are missing a piece of the blue sky. Or in a spherical pan...

Vignetting / bad exposure

Hi, I would like to see a better blending (especially of uniform blue skies) when the lens has vignetting and/or the exposure was slightly different for each shot. It used to be (in ancient Autopano versions) that the blender automagically took care of this. Not so anymore. Of course, you can tweak ...

Re: Working without Exif

I'm happy to see that in the APG 3.5 public beta, they specifically mention: "Better detection and stitching of images that don’t have EXIF data". Yay ! Now hopefully the new version also improves working with (very slightly) vignetted images. Right now, Microsoft ICE (yikes !) does a bett...

Re: Working without Exif

Well, since I am technically interested, could you explain how the HFOV of the lens in the EXIF is used to build the panorama and what precision is required ? I would have thought that in the fitting process, a more accurate value than the one reported by the lens could be calculated and used. Isn't...
