Re: Best Affordable Zoom/Telephoto Lens Option for a D800

@Destiny,

well the update affects only some settings, that are, in my opinion quite useless. The excellent quality of the images remains the same. They didn't touch noise reduction. So I decided no update at the moment. Never touch a running system.

All the best

Re: Best Affordable Zoom/Telephoto Lens Option for a D800

Hi Klaus,

good thing that I never dumped my Hasselblad gear. I used the 150mm Hasselblad lens also with success on the D800. I still have my Sinar optical bank equipment and have a handmade adaptor for my digital Nikons. This beats all tilt/shift lenses in the studio.

All the best

Re: Best Affordable Zoom/Telephoto Lens Option for a D800

I bought a 500 mm zeiss teletessar for a Hasselblad and with an adaptor for Nikon works well on my D800. No vignetting at all because I only use the very center part of the lens. I found it on ebay for 380 euros. The weight is no problem for the epic pro.

Re: Ricoh Theta Images

Just found something interesting and promising on the web. There seems to be a hack to access the Theta from a pc or mac via wifi or usb.

Re: Ricoh Theta Images

mediavets ,this is certainly true. The exposure is changed quite fast. In the iOS app for the Theta is a slider allowing you to darken and lighten the panorama. So i cut a slice of paper and taped it under the slider on my iPad. With a pencil I put several marks on it, indicating the positions where...

Re: Ricoh Theta Images

I have the Theta since it came out last year. It has gone through several firmware updates and compared to the first pictures I got out of it quality has improved. If I have a client who is willing to pay for the better quality you get out of a DSLR I use it. I think about 75% of the clients don't w...

Re: Ricoh Theta Images

mediavets, unfortunately it is not possible at the moment to change any settings. You can control the exposure using your mobile phone or iPad. I think they just tested the impact of their device. If they see more serious work appear they will likely cooperate more with the professional users, eg. t...

Re: Ricoh Theta Images

Well I use the Theta since it came out. I had several emails exchanged with their service regarding the quality of the images. The quality got much better since two firmware updates. They reduced the maximum ASA sensitivity from 1600 to 800. This helped. I rarely use the images right out of the came...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Hi mediavets,

update on self-leveling. It works with their own PC/Mac software. but there's no way to export the VR-movies. Anyway I don't think I'll use the Theta much handheld.

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

mediavets,

I just tested the self-leveling. It seems that you're right. It should work only on the theta360 site.

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

mediavets, it certainly becomes more and more difficult to live from photography alone. But there is always somebody out there who is willing to spend some money for marketing his/her product. As for the self-levelling I haven't tried it so far, because I never used the Theta handheld so far. The Ri...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Hi Destiny, here I have a translation of an email I received from Ricoh this morning (sorry for the bad English it comes from Google): "Thank you for your FEEDBACK . The sample photos we received. Please be aware of that the Ricoh Theta is not intended for professional use. It was developed as ...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Hi Destiny, the most interesting thing about the Theta is that most people don‘t know the quality of a conventional 360° spherical panorama. I just did a test during last week. I shot a series of 50 panoramas with the Theta. The director of a clinic is going to retire by the end of this year. So I w...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

I‘m still communicating with Ricoh on behalf of the Theta. A technician revealed me in an email, that the Theta has two 2 megapixel sensors. That means that each sensor has roughly an area capturing 1410x1410 pixels. Assuming that the two fisheye lenses in the Theta cover only a circular area of the...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Hi Destiny, I'm still uncertain what to do about the Theta. I have posted the review for our community to give the best information possible on this product. The Theta is well made and you could well imagine it to be part of your camera bag. I meet with a potential client this week end. If he jumps ...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Hi folks, I posted a review of the Theta. I also got a rather cynical reply from Ricoh stating that the Theta is intended only to be a Lifestyle Product for sharing pictures on twitter or facebook. They say the quality isn't intended for professional use. I think they won't sell much Thetas at it is...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Destiny you're right 100%. Ricoh wants to create a panorama community to share interactive panoramas worldwide. For this purpos the Theta simply costs too much. The App to control the Theta is very basic. There could be a lot more functions implemented, e. g. automatic HDR. Basic HDR is possible by ...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Well if you work a little bit wit LR 5 it's like having a new camera. I called Ricoh tonight to ask them about the poor quality of the theta pictures. They said that I wasn't the first person to call. I get a call back from one of their engineers. I attached the files develloped in LR 5. I saved the...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

I just made this test-shot. It is a real poor result. So much noise in plain sunlight. The Theta will definitely go back to Ricoh. Just look at the massive noise in the sky.

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

Well Destiny I'm still looking for the right workflow. Anyway by the End of the week I know if I'll keep it or send it back to Amazon. Certainly it depends for what purpose you would use the Theta. If it's only for a small interactive pano on a website it could be OK. Mostly my clients are not willi...

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

It is quite easy to access the files in the camera with lightroom. The first thing you notice is that the images are quite noisy especially indoor. But it is amazing how quick you get a full sphere. The shots outdoor seem to be a little better.

More later

Re: RICOH 360 Camera

My Ricoh Theta arrived today. Right now it's being charged. So stay tuned. I'll give it a test and post the results here. The first test-shot could be transferred easily to my iMac. I'll test it out under different lighting conditions and post the files here.

Hi Artisan New, I use the D800 for Gigapixel panoramas. 2 years or so I stumbled over an adaptor that allows me to use Hasselblad lenses on my Nikon bodies. I still had my old Hasselblad equipment in a camerabag, which was no more used since all things went digital. With the D700 it was already a wo...
