"small changes"? Is anything left of the orginal Merlin I meant changes since my last posting in this thread. Altogether I modified a lot of course but still Merlin-Parts are the base, gear wheels, bearings, control and electrical drives. Unfortunately I have no electronic skills so I was dependent...

Hello again, after trying out my Merlin-mod for a while I did some further small changes* and finished now. * - covered bullseye levels rearside (sun shined through at edge areas and caused malfunction) - moved the RRS-rail 10mm. Scale starts with zero in the upper pivot axis now and rail is effecti...

klausesser wrote:advantages of the original Merlin motors: they´re very small, cheap and do their job very ok!

I think so. It would be interesting where to buy these (Merlin-) motors separately as spare parts.
If somebody knows...

BTW: thank You Klaus and Paul for the nice words. I appreciate that

Hello there The intricate quality of his work shows off! Sorry when You received that impression. Beleave it or not this was not my intention! I got support and ideas from here and in turn I wanted to share my experience modifying this head in my way - not to make somebody recreate it one-to-one but...

modular axis, using the same design for both yaw/pitch... It was my intention to do so because multiple usage of same parts means less effort. Partially I have managed that (same drive- and bearing covers, specific dimensions of drive`s base plates) but please be aware that I´ve designed this devi...

following pic shows friction discs made of dissipative table mat, felt and rubber. As i mentioned before the dissipative table mat (upper right, p9) works good for me. The tested felt allowed too much compression, was instable and reached not enough friction. The rubber disc was also but had too muc...

A photoelectric barrier is placed on the motors
Perhaps its LED is bent in that way that it streaks the small black wheel (check the yellow marked area on the photo below).
If the wheel can`t rotate free, carefully bend the Led a little bit back

Thank You, to save time I didn`t design these parts with CAD. Because of this there are no drawings. There are only a few incomplete freehand sketches on writing pad papers for some of the parts or rather of some areas of some parts. edit: found one more sketch today Feel free to have a closer look ...

Yesterday the LM7808 arrived. BT`s hot voltage regulator stays cool and the LM7808 is getting warm to the touch first. After a few minutes it`s getting hot, too. Not as hot as the BT`s voltage regulator but hot to the touch, especially its GND-plate. Perhaps I should srew it on the matal-housing for...

my best friend internet links Klingerit with gaskets. It looked promising to me first but was not applicable for this purpose (Merlin fr...

I hope the ordered voltage regulator LM7808 will arrive tomorrow. Today I found a 78L08 (TO-92) and tried it out. Instead of BT`s voltage regulator "first level" the 78L08 is getting hot then and the BT`s voltage regulator stays cool. Compliant with its datasheet recommended operating conditions are...

at the end I tested my new Merlin with the original power supply. The "hot component" does no longer getting hot, just warm to the touch. All in all it seems to me that higher voltage is no good for the BT module. If I am right there are two possibilities: 1.) supply the BT with 14.8V and provide th...

Current at Merlin`s power switch is 98mA.
Not moving, just Merlin and BT on

At my older Merlin it`s just about the same, wobbles between 98 and 100mA
without BT it`s 36,3mA

good news: I have connection now :) I reflected about what else could be wrong. The electronics housing is conductive. I assembled the jack from the wireless trigger (YONGNUO RF-602TX) in the housing. One of its contacts is connected to the housing in this way. I desoldered this wire and got BT conn...

interesting news: I soldered the new BT-module to the switch of the old Merlin head and there it works! BT module is OK. Connected to the old Merlin head the "hot" component is getting a little bit warm but not hot. What does this mean now? new Merlin head has a problem? But with T&C controller it i...

I checked BT wiring by comparing with wiring of the working Merlin and found no mistake so far. Tested the working Merlin again and found out that its BT-module is getting warm, too. I can`t touch the component directly because I glued that BT-board into Merlin`s rear cover. But in the area of the h...
