You think they are accidentally blowing up something on the board if something is cross-wired? I had a couple of swapped wires, but luckily everything is fine.

If Parallax makes up a simple connector cable, then they can possibly prevent warranty type repairs for incorrect wire placement.

I like the idea about a small universal plate, then a pack of different size shims (.5mm,1.0mm,1.5mm, etc). You can then customize your own head based on what camera you have. Plus, in the future when you buy a new camera you can just add or subtract a shim.

First offical pano shot with Merlin/Papywizard

Hello Gang,

This is a photo of a new Vascular Bi-plane lab I installed at a local hospital. The shot was done in one horizontal row with 4 sets of 3-bracketed photos. Simple, but fun to watch the little Merlin robot whizz around and snap the photos :D

Enjoy!

That "envisiongear" system is cute, but having the camera balanced on it's center of gravity and not the Nodal point could result in poor pano stitching...

Hello Joelb, Sounds like the problem that I had. The Blue-tooth connects, but there is no communication from the Orion/Merlin head. I would triple check the wiring for the TTL logic. Sounds like your +Vcc and Gnd are correct. You're not leaving the hand control plugged in also are you? Good luck! On...

Hello Claude, If it was not for your excellent photos I never would have been able to get this thing working :) My short phone cord had the Green and Red wires swapped. Also the phone jack in the box had different wire colors :o Green ended up being VCC, Black is GND, and Yellow is TTL Logic. Basica...

Got my board today. Placed it into a small plastic box and wired it up. Nothing... Checked my wire, fixed a few problems and now it works :D

Now I have to figure out the program and start shooting!

For those of you who do not know... ANYONE who lives in the lower peninsula of Michigan in the USA is a "Troll" myself included. It's because we live below the bridge, aka the Mackinaw Bridge

Just curious, with the Canon 24-104mm IS L lens, does the NPP shift when using the zoom function, or is it the same over the entire range of the zoom? Would it be a better option to go with a "Prime" lens for the best results, or are nominal zoom lenses ok (200mm or less). Thanks for any help, I'll ...

Hey Ken, Fellow Detroiter here! Just got my Merlin from Telescopes.com, but strange thing is it came with a tripod and not the smaller table mount...?? Oh well, just the same I'll be using it on my Manfrotto tripod with a quick disconnect. I'm still waiting for my Tronisoft kit, but when it comes in...

Hello Frédéric Sorry to say that I can not take any pictures because the unit is already boxed up and ready to ship. As for modifying the system with an external switch, that may be a forced reality in the future, but for now you can still purchase the Skywatcher head. Only a matter of time before a...

Talked to Orion directly, they said it's not on the new system, but would not say why. There is a new mother board, so it does not look like you can just "add" the port back. I'll send the head back and order a Skywatcher head from telescope.com.

New Merlin head?

Hello,

I remember seeing a post here about a month ago talking about a newer version of the Merlin head. How is the new head working? Is it better then the old style, or should I look for the older version for purchase?

Thanks,
Dave

Anti-glare screen for Nokia tablet

Hello everyone, I've got my Nokia 800 already, but no Orion head yet. I was wondering if anyone has an issue with glare on the screen? Just trying to watch videos on the Nokia I've already noticed it's hard to see the screen sometimes. Are there any good anti-glare screen covers for the 800 series? ...

My new Canon DSLR will be my main camera for all shooting, so the extended battery grip will be a perminant fixture. More power for extended use. Plus I might use the camera for time-lapse shots and I would need the extra power for longer running time. Here is a link to my Vimeo page that shows a ti...
