A 3000 x 1199 pano ( 3767 x 1506 uncropped) from just 7 640 x 480 images?

How?

All I did, though, was to provide a direct link to the Quicktime (.mov) file.

THe panorama was made from Jpegs. I generally use Jpeg when shooting panoramas as RAW files tend to fill up the memory card rather quickly. In this case the greater dynamic range in RAW files may have helped the compromise in exposures between the sunny and shaded parts of the image. I agree that th...

As Beeloba has mentioned, stereographic projections can be made with Flexify2. A similar but not identical effect can be achieved by applying Photoshop's pinch filter to a polar projection. The Jpeg artefacts are a result of over-compressing the panorama for web upload and are not in the original panorama. Thanks for the suggestion to use smartblend.
