Hej,
I've got a Xeon workstation with 16 cores and 64 GBs of RAM for rendering with Autopano.
I'm running Autopano in Linux using NX and Windows using RDP to remote control the workstation.
I've got the problem that my GPU can't be used in Autopano when remote controlling the system.
A solution is to use VNC since it makes "screenshots of the real desktop" instead of using an optimized virtual display driver. Of course, the performance isn't that good...
Would it be possible to access the GPU at a low-level?
Best regards,
Peter

Unfortunately, not really. We need direct access to GPU and only a few remote control system does an emulation at that level.

Actually, it's not an emulation.. But my system supports VT-d ... perhaps should I try an emulation?! I should have direct access to the hardware then!

did you also try the vnc followup versions like:
http://www.realvnc.com/index.html
http://www.tightvnc.com/
http://www.uvnc.com/
or even the vnc based http://www.teamviewer.com
also fast to check if its useful for your needs is:
Google Chrome: Chrome Remote Desktop
Liebe Grüße,
Georg

Hallo Georg,
like I wrote in my initial post: I'm using VNC to fix this, but the overall performance isn't that good.
The performance gets better when installing the virtual display driver, but then Autopan can't access the real one anymore :-)
A devil's circle!

completley clear for me that your desire is not to use vnc...
I just read your line that you're using the original vnc (and not one of the more sophisticated and better performing vnc splitt-offs). So these could be a better fitting transitional solution...

peter,
how about exporting the display? years ago it was common (for us) to export the display to access the X screen via a remote terminal - read more at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ay-304667/
or, if you would spend some money for a KVM-IP box you could also have what you want - and it will surely work

Trick I found, use teamviewer to logon to session and start autopano with GPU active. Then close teamviewer and connect with RDP........you will see that GPU is now being used. I prefer using RDP as it seems to update faster and allows me to use both internal and external screen of my laptop
