Hi , I finally got a Nokia N810 , after some study re-flashed the operating system with the latest version. (No other third party installations on the tablet as I use it for PW only. ) Then went for the install of Papywizard. Followed the instructions in the Kolor manual. Part of which is this :
$ sudo gainroot
/home/user # apt-get install python2.5-runtime
/home/user # apt-get install python2.5-bluez
/home/user # apt-get install python2.5-qt4-core
/home/user # apt-get install python2.5-qt4-gui
/home/user # apt-get install python2.5-qt4-network
Wich I all performed flawless.
Then installed the latest papywizard.
Opened ..... nothing.
Unlike other applications were the starting up of a selected software is announced in the top right of the screen the Papywizard attempt to open results in a return to the main screen of the application manager or the home screen, depending where it started.
Any one an idea where to begin.
Thanks !! Jacob

It's easy to miss a step - I know I've done it several times.
These install instructions (which I had a hand in composing) are the most precise I know of. Try them:

many Thanks !!
Did that already before , but ... followed it step by step again. No success ! Then decided to clear the Nokia N810 back to zero / factory . Then re-flashed the operating system with latest software. Then cleared all user data again , just to be sure. all of a sudden i had 135 Mb plus space in memory as before it was 70Mb or so . Then followed all the install instructions all over , now by memory almost ;-) Installed PW . First shut down and restarted... hi hi one can not be careful ( read paranoid ) enough those days. Then with trembling fingers I started Papywizard .... waited a while .... YES BINGO VOILA HURRAY , it opened with the familiar screen I already knew from my MAC. Connected Bluetooth , " hello merlin" , setup the BT communication. Then disappointment , the Merlin failed to connect with the Nokia. The Nokia sees he Merlin on BT...
Just to be sure the Merlin works I did a quick test with the Papywizard on my MAC : OK !!
So where from here ? I tried all I could think about : restart PW , restart Nokia , entered Merlin in plugin setup again. Even removed my paired Nokia phone from the N810. Double checked the BT address . As last thought even re-installed PW ... al to no avail.
So I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?
Kind Regards:
Jacob

What Bluetooth-TTL adapter do you have? Is it the blue one marketed by Kolor?
Have you chosen Bluetooth as the Plug-in type for Pitch, Paw and Shutter?
How did you go about pairing the N810 with the Bluetooth adapter on the Merlin mount?

Don't forget to enter the BT module Password (usually "1234")

Hi both of you .
II use the BT dongle that came with the Merlin as provided by KOLOR but I do not think it is the BT causing a problem as I did a little test: I disabled the Merlin BT connection in the Nokia and in PW it did not show up in the configuration anymore as it did before.
Then I enabled the Merlin in the Nokia BT settings again and very nicely it showed up as the Merlin head with the BT address in the PW configurations.
Then tried to connect : failed !
The precise text I get when the Nokia attempts to send instructions to the Merlin to connect is : " CONNECTION FAILED TO START " , The plugin status popup window shows up and that is it..... help ;-)
Does it makes sense to reinstall the lot in the Nokia all over again , even now PW is working ? Can there be a hidden code to reset ? I'm not shy to type in what ever where ever as long I know where to start. I have a Mac and a Windows XP to attack the Nokia ( prefer Mac ) , so any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks all over for your time !!

This may seem a silly question but are you sure the BT radio in the Nokia is turned on?
I get similar messages to those you report if I turn the Bluetooth off in the Control Panel.
Offline
Hi Andrew , no question ever can be silly ;-)
Yes the radio is on I actually statred to doubt it , but yes it is :-)
I can connect perfectly with my Mac so transmit files and with my old Nokia phone to connect to the net. I disabled both of those and left the Merlin BT enabled.... just to be sure.
That screen you showed is actually the screen I get.
I connected the Merlin to 12 Volt adapter to be sure it has real 12 volt. Again disabled all BT settings in the Nokia and started to search the Merlin , activated the Merlin in the Nokia , it is visible , but again that same message. Tested the Merlin from my Mac and that works OK. Also to be sure disabled BT in the Mac and switched the Nokia phone off , so only a BT in Nokia N810 and Merlin is on..... no success !!
Maybe I am a human jamming transmitter , when I touch any radio it starts to hum , never can tune to a good station ha ha .
Anyway ... all connections seem to work the units are just not on speaking terms with each other.
At least we are, thanks for that .

Hi Andrew & Claude ,
Just an update about some action I took to solve it (not) :
I did a full reset of the N810 via the control panel, then a full clean of the N810. Then deleted Papywizard. Again a full clean. Then reinstalled Papywizard. Then activated only the Merlin in BT. Then started PW. Again no luck... same problem persisted. Then setup in simulation mode . That works fine and so beautiful actually ! Back to Merlin mode .... failed. So as far I can cook up any actions to solve it ... I can not think of anymore steps to take.
My hope is with you guys.
Thanks and 'till soon.

Not sure I understand what you mean by this.

Just to check that the install instuctions are still viable I did a full OS2008 reflash and Papywizard install process this morning on an N810 and Papywizard is working just fine.
I used these install instructions:
http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/ … Nokia_N8x0
And downloaded Papywizard from here:
http://www.papymerlin.com/t%C3%A9lechar … ard/nokia/
Since the Papywizard.org web site is currently dysfunctional from where did you obtain the Papywizard program?
I note that nowhere in the install instructions does it tell you that after reflashing OS2008 Bluetooth is disabled by default, you have to enable it via the Control Panel. But I guess you figured that out from what you've reported.

Hi Andrew. Yes I downloaded from that link you show me here as well. And I indeed enabled Bluetooth after every reflash and clean machine. In the output log I can read an error message but perhaps that is something Frederique has to look into ? It must be in the Nokia I suppose , soft or hardware. The merlin after all functions well from my Mac. Maybe I should forget the Nokia and get a Macbook Air. Although I must say I'm impressed by the build , screen and overall quality of this little Nokia !! I can understand better now why it was chosen as platform for the Papywizard it is just so beautiful .... if it only would work here. How unfortunate that on the end of the day it is a dead-end platform unless Nokia continues it.
Perhaps we have to wait for Frederiqe now ? Unless you know how to read that log.

Where are you located? - knowing your location may enable use to better assist you.

I'm sure we shall get Papywizard working on your N810.
Post the log here and someone will perhaps have some suggestions.

Hi Andrew here is the log below.
I read somewhere " no module named serial " , in the configurations the merlin is set to bluetooth and I can not set that. Unlike in my Mac where I could select serial.
i go down here down under , hope to see good news tomorrow.
Thanks so much , I owe you one :

It looks as if you may be attempting to use a serial driver for the Bluetooth connection between the N810 and the Merlin?
This can be done with Windows (and Mac you say) but not with the Nokia Internet Tablets.
On the Nokia Internet Tablets the Plugins must be configured as shown in screenshot 1 below.
Then, with Merlin mount within range and powered up with Bluetooth-TTL adapter connected , in the Drivers tab use the Choose button to find and select the PapyMerlin device (be patient it can take a little while) and make to pairing between the Nokia Tablet and the Merlin - see screenshot 2 and screenshot 3.
Then use Hardware/Connect to establish a working connection for the session (again be a little patient it's not as instant as when connecting from a desktop computer).
If prompted, the passcode for the PapyMerlin BT-TTL adapter on the Merlin is 1234.

Hi Andrew, I did that before but perhaps not after all the resets etc. Because I could read the BT address for the Merlin had remained unchanged. Which looking back was quite weird given the total reset and even reinstall etc.
Anyway followed your instructions to the letter , first of all I had no choice between serial or Bluetooth , bluetooth is visible but greyed out. Then to the driver window, there I could choose the Merlin with its BT address. Did so and OK. Back to the main screen .... connect ... NOT :-(
Adding this up I wonder if I made an error in the first setup and that that error is now 'for-ever' buried in the settings file. Is there is a way to delete the Papywizard settings file manually via X terminal? I can work a little with t if I get precise step by step typing commands. Then we can re-initiate Papywizard from a blank slate.
Man I thank you so much !!

PS , I am away for most of the day , so do not worry if I do not reply for another 10 hours.

I'm sure you are not that keen to do it (again) but the best way to create a truly 'blank slate' is to reflash OS2008 and then go through the Papywizard install process.
I find it takes less than 20 minutes if you have downloaded the OS2008 .bin file to local disk and have a Windows system to run the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard.

Hello Jacob ...
This is normal that you get the same 'id' for your bluetooth, this "id" is "unique" AND "dedicated" to your Bluetooth (this "id" is given by the BT chip factory !)
You have said:
Then to the driver window, there I could choose the Merlin with its BT address. Did so and OK. Back to the main screen .... connect ... NOT :-(
BUT before going back to the main screen and before trying to connect , YOU MUST ENTER THE PASSWORD FOR THE BT MODULE !!! This password is "1234".
If you don't, you will never connect !!!

Hi Andrew
That is the strange thing , I did not get that question again , waited and waited....
I could enter it initially at first setup. And did so.
Can I trigger that request ?
I'm now at work in town and could not bring the Merlin with me , so have to try that tonight.

Hi Andrew,
did a search on Maemo.org and found that it is possible that even after a re-flash some bits and pieces of file remain stored. An other user had a similar ghost issue with a web browser. That could explain why I am not able to change the mMerlin settings and perhaps an error is redundantly staying put somewhere.
So the key is : how to find and delete that file ?

I find that if one selects Serial as the connection type along with Merlin-Orion when configuring the Yaw, Pitch and Shutter plugins on an N810 then it's not possible later to change from Serial to Bluetooth.
You can remove the papywizard.conf file to resolve that.
To remove the papywizard.conf file you will need to use the X-terminal program (it's found in Utilities), and use the following commands (the $ is the prompt, so do not type it):
$ cd .config/papywizard2
$ rm papywizard.conf
then launch Papywizard again...now you will be prompted to setup the plugins (afresh) when Papywizard starts. Choose Merlin-Orion and Bluetooth for Yaw, Pitch and Shutter plugins.
Now power up your Merlin mount and its PapyMerlin BT adapter and in the Drivers tab use the Choose button to locate and select the PapyMerlin BT device.
Now attempt to Connect (Hardware/Connect) and provide the passcode 1234 if prompted.

Hi Andrew,
Tried that and it says
~sh: cd.config/papywizard2: not found
Also tried via sudo gainroot , same message.
Can I open a main directory via cd to see the file name perhaps ?
Offline
Did you miss out the space between cd and .config/papywizard2 ?
When you start X-terminal it should present a $ prompt - does it for you?
Where does ~sh: come from ?

That's what happens if old eyes try to be smart before the coffee ;-)
I'm now in a CLEAN Papywizard !!!!
Will setup very very diligently later today , tomuch in a hurry to mow our crazy big lawn before going to town again.
see www.paradiseforsale.com.au for the lawn and distance to town.
I will let you know later today how it went.
Just another Q: do you know how to increase transmission reception distance for BT ?
THANK YOU SO MUCH ANDREW , You save my day even though I have to mow the grass :-) :-)

I've never found the distance a limiting factor - outdoors and within line of sight I could connect at a distance at which I could no longer be quite sure the head was moving.
What sort of distance did you want/hope for?
