Decisions - Which Tour Software???

I am finding this decision and licensing a little confusing.

I have been using Krpano for a couple of years. In my desire to make tours a more pleasant experience I bought an unlimited license from Krpano in order to use with APT. After doing so I found out this is no longer supported, and the versatility lacking.

So I started trying the trial versions of PT and PTP. Some of you may have seen my recent questions trying to figure these out. I guess I am a good "bug discoverer." smile

So my question about these choices is as follows. I noticed when using "Compute Optimum Size in AGT" I get a different result than when I do it in PT and PTP (same pano of course). (See screen shots below) So I am asking what is the difference when converting to flash between the different platforms. Which one yields the highest quality product?

What are the differences between the Flash creation using APT, PT, PTP, or when using Krpano's latest release? Is PTP using the Multires tiles? If not, can it be made to? I wish to have the highest quality panos possible, so that is the reason for my question.

Re: Decisions - Which Tour Software???

Now I'm even more confused. I just read this online:

"if you own a licence of Autopano Giga 2, you can get a free licence of Panotour. If you own a licence of Autopano Giga 2 and also a licence of KRPano, you can get for free a licence for Panotour Pro."

Is his true. I own a license for AutoPano Giga, and one for Krpano. Do I have to pay for PTP??? That would answer my question. I have been hesitating because of the high cost of PTP.

The answers to these questons can be found here:
http://www.kolor.com/updates.html

To summarise if your licenses for APG and krpano were purchased before the release of APP/APG V2.5 (2 February 2011)  then you can obtain a free licence key for Panotour Pro.

go to http://www.kolor.com/updates.html
and read it, yes you're right...

as states go to link http://www.kolor.com/magento-support/ and loginto your account there you can review "My licenses" and also can review "My Updates" under My Updates there should be the option to "buy" a license for the new PTx license, final fee should be 0...

if your APG license is listed under "My Licenses" but your krpano not (because you bought it not at kolor, but at kroano.com directly you should get into contact with kolor staff how this is handled...

Re: Decisions - Which Tour Software???

Thanks for the help. This is still confusing. Maybe because the updates page in "My Account" is a mess. It is unusable. See screen shot below.

I purchased AutoPano Giga last year, and own a Krpano license. So I should be entitled to PTP. But apparently I already upgraded to 2.5 with PT, not knowing I could get PTP with a Krpano license. I purchased Krpano license direct from Krpano. So I will have to contact staff I guess. But I do not always get an answer from them.

As you can see, my upgrade page is crazy. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

OK, here's the story. Autopano Tour was bundled with APG V2. There was a single version of Autopano Tour but its features and functionality could be enhanced by registering a krpano licncse with APT.

Kolor announced some long time ago that APT would be replaced by two prod iDcuts (now named Panotour and Panotour Pro) and that these would be marketed as separate product and so APG V2.5 and later would no longer be bundled with any virtual tour authoring software.

Users who had acquired APG V2 licence before 2 February 2011 (when APP/APG V2.5 were released) are offered a free licence key for Panotour

Users who had acquired APG V2 licence and a krpano licence before 2 February 2011 are offered a free licence key for Panotour Pro.

Unlike Autopano Tour, neither Panotour nor Panotour Pro require the user to have a krpano licence to enable any of their features and functionality. Panotour Pro also incorporates the krpano iDevice compatibility license.

Kolor's agreement with krpano means they could also provide a 'standalone' krpano licence with Panotour Pro and there has been some discusiion about this but no decision taken as far as I know.

So my question about these choices is as follows. I noticed when using "Compute Optimum Size in AGT" I get a different result than when I do it in PT and PTP (same pano of course). Panotour Pro offers the most functionality. Both PT and PTP use multi-res. PTP also incorporates the ability to produce iDevice compatible tours.

Yuk, it seems it doesn't like your browser - can you try with Firefox?

It used to be the case that if one had purchased the krpano license from krpano and not from Kolor then there was away to register your krpano licence with Kolor to enable the free PTP licence key option.

There is no need to use this page to upgrade to APG V2.5 because does not require a new licence key.

Re: Decisions - Which Tour Software???

No wonder I'm confused. smile

And having a "my account" and "my upgrade" page that can't be viewed with Safari on a Mac doesn't make sorting out my options any easier.

I'll try Firefox.

Re: Decisions - Which Tour Software???

Well, Firefox works and I can now see my upgrade options. And I was pleased to see the option to upgrade to PTP and a place to submit my KrPano license which it promptly rejected.

This process is very difficult to understand and negotiate. I'm at a loss. I guess I will contact support and hope I get some assistance unless someone has another suggestion. sad

Re: Decisions - Which Tour Software???

Thanks for all the help. All's well that ends well. I managed to get it working after logging in again.

Now I don't have to worry about what to buy, and can start worrying about figuring everything out. smile
