papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

Hi

just got the panogear ...
installed papywizard 2.1x mac OS the latest. When I launch the software it will abort and give me long lines on why it cannot do so (unknown typestr)!

I have a connection to the BT module but it gets constantly lost from my mac book. the light in the BT controller is blinking but oce the connection is lost I do seem to be able to reconnect.
When I try to connect to the BT module I get the message that a command cannot be sent axis-1

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

First of all use Papywizard 2.0 and not 2.1 (that doesn't work for now on Mac OSX).
The LED on BT Controller will become solid only when Papywizard will be connected onto it smile

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

Hi Matthias,

are you using the internal bluetooth of your Mac? If so, I can't connect either to papywizard through my Mac alone.
I now use an external USB Bluetooth device on my Mac and have no problem.

Hope this helps,
Marco

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

see the preset generators in following link:
http://www.papywizard.org/wiki/WikiStart#Tools

can be saved as local html file on your computer with these generators you can create the xml presets that can be loaded to papywizard.......

Papywizard offers two modes of shooting - Mosiac and Preset.

Preset is intended for shooting spherical (360x180) panos where it is desirable to reduce the number of images in rows as you approach the zenith or nadir. The preset node utilises XML format files that define an arbitrary series of shooting co-ordinates. Ask here on the forum to see whether somone has aleady made suitable preset for your camera/lens combination; alternatively you can create you own custom preset files very easily:
http://www.papywizard.org/wiki/UserGuideSvn#Presetmode

For all other, partial, panos (with less than 360x180 pano FOV) you'll probably be best off using the Mosiac mode, which shoots a regular matrix/grid of images.

You can define the matrix by setting the opposing corner co-ordinates, by setting the desired pano FOV, or by setting the number of rows and columns.

In the latter two cases the shooting positions will be computed 'around' the user-defined reference point which be in the centre of the matrix.

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

OK I get the gear to rotate and go up and down with the the software. I define a start point and an endpoint. I get the shots calculated. I got to shoot and press start and I get the message failed.

I checked all the connections the lid is on and I got a connection but i cannot get the panogear to make any shots why?

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

Hi Matthias,

- use an external USB Bluetooth device for a stable connection with your Mac.
- don't use "auto connect" on papywizard: it freeze the app.

I didn't upgraded the Merlin's firmwares yet and it's already quicker than using the hand controller. I'm using the GO TO version.

Marco

external USB BT did not work.
I do not use auto connect I always connect manually.
What is the GO TO version?

sorry for going offtopic here!

Hi Marco,

currently I've a non GoTo Version with PC+Bluetooth+Papywizzard up and running.
MY handcontroller has two broken direction buttons or the cabling is broken and the plugin for the shutterrelease is very loose so cable sometimes works and sometimes it can move and it no longer releases the shutter, so finally I plan to buy a new one...

can I take the GoTo version and I've nothing to change in case of panoramas + I get an additional GoTo so I can go my first steps in astronomy...?

Liebe Gruesse,
Georg

Make sure you are using Papywizard 2.0 and not 2.1.

Then, try again with the external USB-BT device and these guidance notes:

We know there are users who have this working - so...

Hi Georg,

I think so... I took a GoTo version from APM and now it has the cable release connection.
I did also some tests with the Promote Control and everything seems to work OK. Full wireless operation through my MacBook Pro.

I did take the GoTo version to get back to astronomy... I was an astrophotographer and I'd like to restart.

Hi!

After installing the actual PW for Mac version - Alexandre´s link - it worked on my MacBopok Pro with 10.6.6 without problems.
So it guess it might be an issue with the settings - they´re sometimes somewhat funny in PW . . cool

Earlier versions sometimes had problems with the Mac´s BT - but this is gone.

best, Klaus

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

Carefully check if the '/Users/macbook/Desktop/pw_da/' exists, and is writable...

Re: papywizard and connecting from mac OSX

Thanka Klaus & Frederic,

Josef informed me yesterday evening he could solve his problem. He initially saved the logfile in a folder on his desktop which he did move in between. After restarting pw later... he could solve this...

Liebe Grüße,
Georg
