Does that happens always or just sometimes ?
Note : we have an exception in the control point editor that prevents crashing when trying to read the original sources image. If for some reason, we cannot access them, we continue to work but without displaying the concerned image in the background.
What could cause temporary read issue on some files ?
- Because another process is currently accessing it ( I often have such issues on video files because the explorer is extracting datas like video codec, while I just try to move or copy them at the same moment. So after entering a new folder, I have to wait around 10s before trying to move any video file because on the background the explorer process search for metadata. The same concept should apply on images too ).
- It was on a network drive that had a small offline downtime.
- Because it has renamed ... ( we are obviously not in this case, but for the completion of the analysis, I quote that case too ).

Other hypothesis : if the input image are not well decoded.
See the exif : Width x Height is reserved compared to the thumbnail. That's caused by some old jpeg that don't stores well the orientation.
Use any soft to rotate them once lossless and everything goes back well ( and prevents CP to be placed outside image ).
