Upper Hollyford Valley

Fiordland National Park
South Island, New Zealand

Fuji S3 Pro
Nikon 20mm lens
2x4

Some more challenging light conditions. I used a 3-stop soft Graduated Neutral Density filter on the top row, then none on the bottom. Used HDR in the merge process and then still a lot of work in PS to get here.

Re: Upper Hollyford Valley

Great composition - the eye is led in and around the picture.  Have you ever used a polariser in your panos?

Re: Upper Hollyford Valley

Very moody image.  It looks like there's a sharpening halo above the mountains or it is the HDR didn't quite catch the edges cleanly?

I still haven't figured out how to work the HDR.  I shot multiple exposures but nothing seemed to happen other than a major major blowout in every sense of the word when I clicked the HDRI setting.  do I need to click the layer button?

Thanks.

You can use the tonmappers inside autopano and output a LDR image, or output directly a HDR image and apply an external tonemapper smile (ex: photoimpact, photomatix, photoshop, and others..)

Re: Upper Hollyford Valley

nope, after you turn on HDR, bring up the HDR tool. It will default to 128, you need to take it down in the range of 100 - 110.

Re: Upper Hollyford Valley

Yes I have used a polarizer quite a bit w/o any issues.
