Merlin Motorised AZ Mount controlled by a Wii Nunchuk with remote zoom

I have been working on making a hardware based controller for the Merlin head using a modded Wii Nunchuk  controller and also having remote zoom on the slr camera on the head.

http://www.briandorey.com/docs/wiimerlincontrol/controlling-the-camera.jpg

After working on the code and development board over the weekend we got the main commands working, there is a demo video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg05EvvA … r_embedded which shows the 2 different pan and tilt speeds and the remote zoom and camera trigger functions.

There are more photos of the build process so far on my personal blog on http://www.briandorey.com/post/Acuter-M … -zoom.aspx Tomorrow we will work on the PCB and a full circuit diagram and I will add it to the blog with the C sourcecode for programming the PIC processor.

Once this is all completed we are planning to make a hardware based controller which we can set the number of rows and images to take and it will send the commands to the merlin head to allow us to take panos without having to take the laptop as well. I will post the code on the blog as the project progresses. Hope this will be helpful for other people making hardware based controllers for the Merlin heads.

Great job! I especially love the servo-based remote zoom smile

Just updated the blog with the code and circuit layout http://www.briandorey.com/post/Acuter-M … art-2.aspx

The H-Bridge from the Servo isn't included on the circuit as the pin connections on the H-Bridge vary depending on the model used. Any H-Bridge with a rating of 5V and minimum of 1A rating should be ok for the servo zoom control

Hey Brian!

Very fine job!

For the use of video/movie: did you think about programming a "ramp" to start moving softly instead of a sudden motion start?

(didn´t see whether you did already . . . )

best, Klaus

I have tried to open the "circuit schematic" and the "code" but without success ! roll
Could-you see what appens ?

Thanks smile
