RS232-TTL Adapter on skywatcher head

I just purchased a Celestron Skywatcher Backpacker aka the Merlin or Orion Head and am struggling to get a Bluetooth adapter for it here in the USA.  In the mean time, I tried building a cable to interface between my Sony VIAO running Win 7 Pro/64 and ver 2.1.20 for Papywizard.  The cable is a TTL to RS232 adapter and I wired it using the attached diagram from an older copy of the user manual.  When I try to connect to the hardware it shows green check marks for Connect but red check marks for Init and tells me the connection failed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: RS232-TTL Adapter on skywatcher head

Adam,

Thanks... I've actually received replies about the Ursa Minor BT adapter which is on back order and I sent an email about the BT adapter you mentioned and have not yet received a reply (I think he is on vacation).  I have also researched the BlueSmirf BT option and the Tronisoft options which are all doable but will take time.  What I'm really looking for here is the direct wiring options from my Win7 Pro 64bit laptop and the Skymaster head.  I took a wiring diagram from an older skymaste user manual (enclosed with my original post) but only got an unsuccessful connection (at least it was trying).

After more deep research I found this post (http://www.autopano.net/forum/p57035-20 … -19#p57035) and saw the attached diagram and am wondering is this whatI need to do?

The hardwire option is of course the easy way as I work getting a BT adapter.

I appreciate your help.

Mike
