Shoot setup, pulse width, stabilization delay and mirror lockup.

So I have a bunch of questions.

I have not long had my Orion Teletrack and have done some test shots.
I have referenced this:
http://www.papywizard.org/wiki/TipsAndT … ngsequence
Which has some great graphical representations of the parts of the shoot sequence. Here is the diagram I'm referring to:
http://www.papywizard.org/raw-attachment/wiki/TipsAndTricks/shutter_cycle_dev_w_lockup.png

I have some questions (and these relate to doing a shoot with mirror lockup)
1. I can set mirror lockup from within my camera (Rebel t2i) is there a reason to have it done within Papywizard? Also is there any reason why it can't be locked up all the time? I don't need to look through the camera while I'm shooting. And since I'm using manual focus it seems I could eliminate the initial yellow section altogether.

2. What does pulse high do? The diagram shows pulse high occurring at the mirror lockup stage (is this the same value as the 'time value' for mirror lockup in papywizard?) as well as during the first part of the exposure (how much time should this be?)

3. What does pulse low do? It occurs during stabilization delay as well as the latter part of the exposure and also while moving.

4. The pulse high values seem to stay the same in the diagram, but the pulse low values change during the shoot, yet there is only 1 value I can set for each in Papywizard, why is this?

5. Does anyone have a shooting sequence setup that they could explain to me? (shutter speed, pulse high, pulse low, time delay, mirror lockup time value etc) Why they chose such values etc. I'd like a real world example that I can use to help me get my head around this.

In other matters, how can I determine what firmware the head I'm using has? Every 20 or so shots seems to take 3 times as long for some reason. I cannot seem to find the firmware version in the logs.

Re: Shoot setup, pulse width, stabilization delay and mirror lockup.

Ok, let me explain how it works.

Smoe (most?) of camera lockup mirror feature needs an additionnal triggering sequence to work: the first trigger locks up the mirror, and the second actually shoot. That's why you see 2 pulses. Does you camera work this way? Or is it another design? I don't know if a camera can permanently locks up the mirror...

The 'pulse high' param is the width of the high value pulse: it should be long enough to be understood by the camera triggering internal electronic. Some designs also need a maximum value for this pulse, in order to avoid multiple shoots (with Gentle IR stuff, if I remember corerctly).

The 'pulse low' param is the minimum value the signal will stay low between to pulses. We found that some cameras (Canon 500D) need a minimum value to work; in the first design, when shooting multiples pictures at the same position (bracketing), the pulse low was too short (no sleep in the program), and it didn't work.

The pulse low value reference is the last fall down of the triggering signal. Most of the time, it is shorter than other delays (stabilization time, move...), but in case of bracketing, it ensures correct timing.

Hope this is clear; feel free to ask if not.

Re: Shoot setup, pulse width, stabilization delay and mirror lockup.

I see, yes I think my camera functions as you say - 1 trigger to lock-up, the next trigger to expose. Thanks for clearing that up. Continuous lockup would be nice tho.

I have noticed while shooting that the exposure will finish, and there is a delay of at least .5 seconds before it starts moving once more. Is there a way to have it start moving right after the shot?

Re: Shoot setup, pulse width, stabilization delay and mirror lockup.

You need to adjust the 'time value' param, in the shutter plugin. It should match as close as possible your real exposure time (the one set on the camera). But always a little more, or the head will start moving again before the end of the exposure sequence. If you shoot in Tv mode, it is not a problem. If you use a P or Av mode, the exposure time can vary from one picture to another...

Righto thanks for that input, I'll give that a shot.
