360° World, a company based in Hungary, has just released the new world record for a panoramic photograph: Budapest 70 Billion Pixels.
We are proud to say that Autopano Giga was used to stitch the 5000 images of this record ![]()
After 2 days of processing, Autopano Giga, which 360° World considers as being "the most complete software solution for processing high-resolution images", generated a single .KRO file of 200 Gb, which had to be cut into 3 parts before opening it in Photoshop.
Visit Budapest and read more about the project.

Site seems (logically) down. I wonder if they share any info on the processing hardware used...

Their website runs well from here... maybe you need to wait a little bit for the server deployment. Also, make sure you have Silverlight to be able to see the image.
On the website they share many technical details both on the shooting part and the postprocessing.

Yes, it's OK now. But it requires Silverlight
Still, the info is very sketchy - Dell Precision T7500 with dual quad-core Xeons (but which ones?), 24 gigs of ram (in what setup?), 6 tb disks (what kind, what setup?). I may end up writing an email to the team.

I really like the way they have implemented the thumbnails - I wish APT had this style and functionality for thumbnails.

Nice pano, but still leaves much to be desired, compared to Julian's, maybe the air quality isn't so good there. Its a very beautiful city to look at.
Bo, please do,
Those specs aren't desktop standard, more like workstation.
hmm!;-)
Yes, interesting the specs are so sparse. 24Gb was the same as in the Paris one, from memory, though they used Intel SSD. I doubt, they would have used 1TB SSD, more like 6x 1TB SATA, and you would hope it was in a Stripe RAID-0 set :-)

The only reason of using such workstations is sponsoring. You don´t need such specs to create an image like this.
For my Vienna pano I used a normal PC.
12GB RAM, 980x, two WD Digital Cavier Black 2TB harddisks( non Raid config) and win 7 64 bit . This setup works yery good.

Thanks Julian,
That's good to hear, even though I still lust for a new workstation, its good to know that it can be done on more affordable equipment.
I have made changes to my own setup so to use multiple computer, though still a serial event, not parallel. Using Remote Desktop, to multiple computers, but this is more to do many smaller pano's in the 1-4GB size
It would be really great if you could share some more info on how you made your very nice pano, that would be very generous of you.
thanks
Henrik
PS: I am just having some fun with Bo :-) <at least I think its fun <grin> >

from the link above:
It is of a new record: the numerical photograph the highest definition of history was accomplished in Budapest, since the tower of observation (observation is the action of attentive monitoring of phenomena, without will to change them, in help) of János. They speak about a pan composed of gigapixels 70 (that is more than 70 billion pixels). It is the specialized World group 360 which accomplished this prowess, an event was sponsored by Microsoft (Corporation Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is multinational one American of computer resolutions, founded), Sony as well as Epson.
Two Reflex Sony A900 provided with objectives 400mm Minolta and of téléconvertisseurs 1,4X was exploited. The stage of compilation lasted two days (The day or the day is the space which separates the survey of the sunset; it is the period between two) and allowed to generate a file (A file is a place where are lined up chips. It perhaps a piece of furniture, a room, a building, one) KRO of 200 Go.
The final photograph shows dimensions (In wisdom, the notion of dimension returns in size; the dimensions of a room are its length, her) unbelievable: 590 508 x 120 750 pixels.

So how come this isn't in the Guinness world records yet? In fact why are there no large images in Guinness books? Is there some technicality that makes these amazing photos an exception? I'm sure googles stitch of the earth is larger, but it's not really very good in comparison....
