Hi,
not sure if this on the feature list already?
it would be useful to display the battery voltage level of the motorized head in Papywizard.
An additional command could request the battery level from the slave, let's say after each shot
and update a small graph in Papywizard.
For example a command like:
A<axis> x (where x could be a plain value from 0-10)
The value would represent 0 to 100% and could be used regardless of how many batteries (total voltage) are used to drive the head.

My understanding is that the nature of the NiMH discharge curve is such that it would not be useful.

Who is still using NiMh cells ??? even the good old NiCd cells had much higher lifetime ![]()
Of course I was thinking of Lithium Ion or Lithium Fe cells.

I used the Merlin head on Monday to try to track the sun during a timelapse video using the x1 tracking speed. When the video was processed it was clear that the head was travelling faster than the sun. The timelapse session took 2 hours and the sun was clearly lagging the sun as shown in the vimeo video here http://vimeo.com/11070686. Why it was lagging has been explained by a user on the Timelapse forum site i.e. the sun at the horizon doesn't visually travel at 15 degrees/hour it is nearer 12 degrees/hour.
Using the N800 and papywizard how difficult would it be to programme the merlin to run at the slower speed i.e 12 degrees/hour? or it a non-starter?

Kev, Papywizard is dedicated to panoramic shooting; I recently decided not to add timelapse features, as it is a very different usage. Putting all in the same app would lead to a complex GUI and a messy code.
As I already said, I'm about to build our new house, and don't have time to write a timelapse dedicated app. But I will as soon as I have finished our house (end of 2011, I hope), unless someone else develop such app.

You have the "Non-Goto" mount, I believe ...
Normally this one have only "sideral rates"
The "Goto Version" have (via the hand controler) Sideral, Lunar and Solar rates ...
By composing a "timelapse preset" you should normally be able to simulate the "Solar rate" but this will not be so easy ! ![]()
You sould post in forums for astronomy in order to get more info's !

Fma: thanks for the response I fully understand your priority, I've been there lol. I use papywizard for running the merlin for panos very successfully, it's a great piece of software. The reason for querying the use for programming the speed of the merlin was purely because the interfacing and control between the n800/merlin has already been done.
Claude: I'm part way through the design for a panning mount of my own
This is specced to have a infinitely variable speed control from as low as 10 degrees/hour and should be able to handle my Canon 7D and 600mm prime lens.

Is it possible to drive manually to specific position with the papywizard?
The best soultion would be, if I can enter pitch and yaw, and press a "go to" button. After that the photohead moves to this position ( ex. 35° / 20° ).
I use the merlin photohead and papywizard for doing some measurements with a Reflector Block which we track with a infrared camera.
We have an algorithm to process the current position of the reflector block from the images of the camera.
It would be very nice to add this feature to papywizard or someon can tell me how to do this.
