Need Merlin motorised panohead...

Hi to all,

this is my first post in this forum - and besides my first post in an english (language) forum.
( I am in Germany)

I like to buy the Merlin head and a bluetooth extension, I have asked today at "teleskop-austria.at" but he is sold out...

Is it o.k. to ask herewith for offers or for any suggestion where to get this needed parts (both) ?

On my small Laptop (WIN XP) this fantastic Papywizzard (1.6.1) already is installed and the simulation mode seems to run fine.

Thanks in advance for any help, cause I want to start tests with my Camera soon ;-)

(yes, I am a little impatient since I heard that I cannot buy a new one fastly...)

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

Claude (claudevh member) here should be able to furnish you Bluetooth module smile For head, you'll have to wait as it's out of stock everywhere in Europe for now !

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

Thanks Vincèn,

so i will have to wait... but I don´t want to wait  ;-))

Is there anyone who is not satisfied with the Merlin head in terms of Panorama shooting with Papywizzard ?

And is there one, who wants to sell it ??  ;-)

OR

Is there any other possibility, any other available head below 400.- € that could take small DSLR and a 300mm lens ??

Thanks again for any tip !!

best regards !!

Or maybe not - did you check with any UK based retailers to see if they might be willing to ship to you?

FWIW I think this is rather a high price, but....

But do call these people first if you may choose to buy from them just in case they don't actually have stock.

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

Hi all,

I received today my Merlin, it seems to work proper with the "manual" hand controller.

BUT I have a big problem with the Papywizzard :-((

Before - without any bluetooth USB dongle, it runned well in the simulation mode.

Now I installed (WIN XP Pro SP 3) a small bluetooth dongle, it was detected by Win XP - I also had a correct connection with Claude´s bluetooth Merlin-controller (that I have received last week) - I have entered the short password that Claude gave to me, the connection betwen Laptop (WIN XP) and the controllerbox via the small USB bluetooth key seemed to be working...
BUT:
when I open Papywizard I get a window - that is ALWAYS on top - and that seem not to do anything (or it waits for any signal?), this small window only shows:
"Creating GUI..."
But behind this window, the real Papywizzard GUI (window) alsready has started (but cannot be "activated" - it cannot be used, as not active...)
So, what I did try:
1. I uninstalled the bluetooth dongle (in WIN XP)
2. I did a new installation of the papywizard
3. I tried to start-up papywizard after new installtion (I tried old and newer versions)
it is always the same result, as written above...

can help someone ????
did anyone has such problem, if yes, what was the soluton?

1000 thanks and best regards,
Dieter

Which Papywizard are you using? Can you post the content of the log file, which is in:

I need to add, that I tried sveral times to start papywizard, first time, after the bluetooth connections seemed to be working (due to the windows connection messages and status displayed)
and I also did cancel the bluetooth connection and tried to start papywizard - but in any case I ave the same result: this small window tha want to tell: "Creating GUI..."  does not hide... and it´s therfore not possible to enter to the papywizard (what is visible, but not "touchable"...

I don´t know what to do next....??

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

Hallo Dieter, das hat Georg herausgefunden:

Hint: IF your windows username contains special characters like ö,ä,ü then try to use not these standard directories during installation. Papywizard has problems to handle these special characters (no all versions are affected. This is/was solved in some versions, but coming back in newer versions).

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

I think the auto-connect flag is active, but the bluetooth connection is not reachable (you don't need to connect from the system *and* from Papywizard in bluetooth. If you connect from the system, use a serial Papywizard connection (search for the emulated COM port in the system).

Second, you should use a recent dev version, instead of the 2.0.0, which is not that stable! I also removed the auto-connect flag, so Papywizard starts in any case.

It seems Frederic got his response posted while I was still composing mine- but we seem to suggest the same things.
.....
Are you using the latest dev. version of Papywizard V 2.1.17?

If not, do so: http://www.papywizard.org/wiki/Download … ntversions

Try using a serial style connection for your Bluetooth USB device; remember that serial port value can be entered, for example in the case of COM2, as 'COM2' or '1' since Papywizard enumerates serial ports from zero.

Re: Need Merlin motorised panohead...

I don't think you need to upgrade the firmware; the buggy one is the 020581. But if you experience strange behaviour (like a slow move every two shots), then you can try to upgrade.
