Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Yes, Klaus, no problem.

About the speed, I have to check, but I'm pretty sure I had it working with 200mm focal lens... Could you post the log for a 2 pictures pano? Activate the 'trace' log level...

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Argh! - I think it is time to go crazy!
I changed settings to create the log, started the panorama and the head moved faster! Exept changing the log level to debug, i did nothing what i haven't done yesterday and all the days before!
I create a log for the developer and the d*** thing speeds up....    :-)

I'll try to track down the cause of this behavior in the evening (there is a chance that it has to do with the BT connection). Meanwhile for reference only, here is the trace log:

Hello Frederic

As far as i can tell now, the "slow moving head problem" is computer dependent.
Here is the log from another computer where the situation re-appeared:

There is nothing unusual in the logs. I will need to send you a version with additionnal logs. What plateform?

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Bernhard,

You have a  Samsung N220 Netbook with Windows 7, could you please (via the control panel) tell us :
- The Brand name and type of your internal BT module ?
- The Bluetooth stack used by the computer ?

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Hello,

Yes, these are different BT devices on different computers.
All computers communicate via default Microsoft stack.

- The Samsung Netbook uses an internal "Broadcom BCM2070 2.1+EDR USB Device"
- The other machine which still has problems uses an internal "Broadcom BT 2.0 EDR USB Device" with Windows XP.
- I have also tried on a 3rd machine using a pluggable USB dongle ("Generic Bluetooth Adapter") running Windows 7 and it worked on the first attempt.

All i can say at the moment is, that the first 2 machines that have/had problems are portable devices, so maybe some power saving policies may interfere with the BT connection.

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Does it work fine when you use higher steps (shorter focal)? If it is a communication problem, you should get the same issue...

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Hello Bernhard,

My experience ...
"Normally" original Microsoft  or Broadcom give no problems ....
"Normally" Broadcom hardware are not giving problems ....

The Bt problems are generally coming with"exotic" BT stacks like Toshiba and also Toshiba BT devices, this is the case with most of the MAC computers and Eee PC's where i advise allways to use a "standard uiversal BT dongle"  ... this solve 99 % of the BT problems ... this was the situation till the recent commercialisation of machines based on the "Pine Trail platform" like your Samsung N220 serie!
Those Pine Trail platforms are specially designed for "extra low electric consumption"...
So I am affraid that your analyse of "power saving management" is correct ...
May-be, that it will be possible to fine tune this management  and that the usage of external Bt dongles will escape to this power saving management ...

Conclusion, till beter advise , plugging  a BT dongle in your laptop is probably the best solution ...
Stupid isn't ???

In french we said "LE MIEUX EST L' ENNEMI DU BIEN ..."   wink

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

"Normally" i try to avoid BT connections whenever possible  ;-)

I think i'm now on the right path of finding the root cause of the problem: The farther away the head from the sending device, the more problems i get. Also true if the head itself occludes the direct connection.
I didn't replay all combinations now as i want to go out shooting photos  ;-)  - however, above makes sense as power management will decrease transmission power and reduce communication quality. I'll try later by disabling power management for the BT device and see if this makes the problem more reproduceable.

The farther away the head from the sending device, the more problems i get. Also true if the head itself occludes the direct connection.

I had the Nokia N800 and the Merlin with an Aircable dongle running at about 10m - direct sight - distance without any problem. Above this distance it becomes less reliable.
I didn´t try an USB cable of that length yet . . . . cool
At another time a taped the Nokia to the tripod and started the sequence - then i had some currywursts around the corner . . . . lol

I see, i see - i missed the step with the currywurst in my workflow. That's the reason  ;-)
Stop laughing and think about it: BT - like WiFi - uses a high frequency wave band around 2,5 Ghz which is roughly the same frequency as a microwave oven uses. This frequency is easily absorbed by water - the most frequent element in the human body. So if you go around the corner and eat a sausage, you're helping your controlling device to have a more stable connection to the head.

I think this is intended behavior - as long as the shutter triggers every now and then  ;-)

To make the discussion more serious, i have a request for the PC/Mac version:
It would be fine to be able to manually move the head with the standard cursor keys. It is a little tedious to watch the image section and tap the buttons.
Also, i would appreciate an audible signal if the panorama is finished.

You can - at least it works as you describe on my Windows XP PC using the cursor keys on the numeric pad.

Also, i would appreciate an audible signal if the panorama is finished.

That's a nice idea.

Thanks for the hint! But doesn't work with the lates beta on my computer(s).  :-(
Also, it would be useful to activate the standard cursor keys as numeric keybads are not very common on mobile computers  :-)

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

It used to works with the cursor keys, but I remove this feature: I never find a nice way to bind the keys, and the way I did it was messing up other applications (focus problem, if I remember correctly). I agree it was nice to move the head this way, but...

Ooops - it seems I wasn't looking at the latest version.

It was working with 2.1.10 if you fancy going back to that version.

Thank you.

- Bulb mode in shutter plugins

If checked this means that shutter switch contact is closed for entire duration of Time value - as was the case in much earlier versions of Papywizard - is that correct?

Pulse width high max. duration remains 1000ms. Do you have plans to increase this limit?

Yes.

Why do you need longer pulse width? What value would you like?

Re: [papywizard v2] Annoncement, feedback, bug report

Windows 2000 SP4 & PW 2.1.17

I am returning to an earlier issue/bug.

I've never been able to run any version of PW later than 2.1.6 with Windows 2000 with SP4.

All later versions fail to load: the error message is always the same -

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "main.py", line 112, in main
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "papywizard\controller\mainController.pyo", line 74, in <module>

  File "papywizard\driver\bluetoothTransport.pyo", line 80, in <module>

  File "bluetooth\__init__.pyo", line 11, in <module>
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 98, in load_module
ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading bluetooth\_msbt.pyd

Is there any likelihood of resolving this?
