Thank you guys for your wise advices! I just wanted to use the Canon suite because it fits my use and I've been working with it for a while. I had been investigating Breeze PS Remote some time ago and had run the trial version for a test. It's supposed to be fully fonctionnal except you can't save image to disk unless you are registered. It's OK but I wasn't impressed enough to buy a licence. But now that you've mentionned Breeze, I think I will investigate in that direction again.

Solaris,
A few questions:
1. If you have your camera connected via USB does it disable the IR remote functionality?
2. Can you outline how you plan to connect to and use the Merlin head with Papywizard on your mast?
3. How will this be different from what you do now with your custom 3-axis motorised head?

1. I haven't tried it and I see what you mean but I don't want to add an IR device on top of the mast (extra source of potential malfunctioning).
2. The first head is wire-controlled (cables inside the mast). I can either actuate it by manipulating toggle switches on the trailer dashboard or use a radio remote control (receiver is in the "technical body" of the trailer). In other words, it's totaly independant from the PC control of the camera.
3. For obvious reasons, the Merlin head should be controlled by the PC (which is not the case of the "regular" head.
Have I answered your questions?

Mediavets,
I realize that I haven't really answered your second question. The camera and the notebook PC are on top of the mast and I have control of everything from the ground with another 17' laptop via Wifi remote desktop.

Great news: CHDK, the alternate firmware for Canon Powershot cameras, is a ready-to-use solution for intelligent bracketing. See my question on the forum:
http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,4506.0.html
The documentation is here:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_firmwar … isto_range
Using the scripting feature together the get_histo_range function can determine if a picture is over/under exposed, and reshoot with a exposure correction if needed.
I will soon test this with my mother's IXUS 40 ![]()

The IXUS 40 (aka SD300 in the USA) is not listed as being suppoeted by PS remote..

With CHDK, it is possible to trigger the camera via USB port with a simple contact. There is also a dev in progress to be able to do tethered shooting...

Andrew, I thing that the IXUS 40 is supported.
See http://mighty-hoernsche.de/ in the Autobuild downloads about First third of page ...

It is supported by CHDK, but not by PSRemote...

At the moment there are no handheld/pocketable PCs at a credible price that have the compute power and other features required to explore the concept of intelligent extended bracketing.
There is a small Nintendo running a dedicated software for extended bracketing - i´ll look to find the link.

Hi you guys,
Trying tethered shooting with my new 5D mark II, EOS Utility and Pw 2.1.19, I get to EOS Utility shutter configuration which indicates a default path : C:\Program Files\Papywizard\EOSBracket.exe. I suppose it would work OK if this file was present in Pw directory, but it's not ! Where can I find this file ?
Moreover, "plugins" are not available (grey) in Pw main window. What is the problem ?
Olivier

I found out that the plugins are not available in Pw main window if Merlin is connected. Sorry about that ! But I still can't find EOSBracket.exe. Checking UserGuideSvn I found that EOS Utility "needs additional utility. See: GIVE LINK." Sorry but I don't see what "GIVE LINK" refers to ! Anybody can help ?
Olivier

In progress but it's still not working : at the first shutter release of the pano, I get the message
EOSBracket.exe
Unable to find the main Window button for EOSUtility.
Any idea of what's wrong ?
Here is my bracket.ini file
EOSUtilityType=new
BracketValue=1
BracketType=3
Shoot=n
BulbMode=n
BulbBaseExposure=4
FocusBracket=n
FocusDirection=far
FocusStep=medium
FocusStepCount=1
FocusNumber=3
Is it correct ?

I think you first need to launch the EOS Utility program...
