Samyang 8mm

Adam showed me this lens, and I was impressed by the reviews I read about it, taking into account the good price, about £200/300$. I'd gladly read first-hand experience with this lens from panographers here, especially the bad things. Also can you suggest anything better for that price?

I'm currently using a Pentax k10d, planning to upgrade to Pentax k7 next year, unless something better comes out. I've been in love with my Pentax ever since my camera backpack opened up while I was climbing down a long salt mine stairwell and my k10d + 2 lenses fell out and bounced down the stairs, and absolutely nothing happened to any them! So chances I'll be moving to Canon/Nikon look slim :]

Re: Samyang 8mm

I just ordered Samyang 8mm lens for my D300 from Foto-tip in Cracov, Poland. On every forum it is very highly recommended.

"360pano" is a "specialist" in "Lens Shaving Service" ... ("360pano" is a Papywizard user !)

He has some pics taken with the Samyang 8 mm in his web site :

For the price the Samyang is a very good FE ! No doubt .....

Re: Samyang 8mm

I also found Rokinon 8mm at overstock.com for $249.99. I think it's made by Samyang. It looks the same.
I won't save Samyang for now, as I have D300. No need to shave it.
Yes I'll upload photo as soon as get the lens.

Is this Samyang in disguise?
Fantastic price. Are you familiar with this lens?

it Looks like a samyang and this link seems to confirm this http://photography-on-the.net/forum/sho … ?p=9095357
"This is the same lens as the Bower, Falcon, Vivitar (7mm), Walimex, Opteka (6,5mm), etc.
All are made by the Korean manufacturer Samyang and all are exactly the same except for some colors/paterns on the lens."

This link here is a review of the lenshttp://translate.google.com/translate?j … &tl=en

I'm seriously considering this lens at the moment.

Got mine today from Foto-tip. Fast shipping.
Seems very solidly built lens. Took a few pics around the house. Looks good. For the price I give it excellent rating.

Re: Samyang 8mm

Adam,

What puzzles me a bit is how you set the exposure correctly with a Samyang FE when, AFAIK, it doesn't meter as there are no electrical connections between lens and camera body.

Is it just a matter of trial and error - taking test shots and adjusting acoordingly?

Re: Samyang 8mm

Probably works the same as any other lens that doesn't have the electrical contacts.  Just use Av or M and set the aperture on the camera to what the lens is set to.  Then the in-camera light meter will work fine.

Re: Samyang 8mm

Set camera to M  and set aperture you want, set aperture on lens, look through a view finder and adjust so no under/over exposure is indicated on lightmeter bars. Shoot one image and look at histogram if your camera has it. It is quite simple.
It also works in A priority.
BTW pano above was hand held. Did I say that already?
Also in Nikon D300 you can set "non CPU lenses" and it will record EXIF for given lens.
