"resolution? say 300dpi"
Thats not an image resolution, I suppose a guideline value in megapixels would be best since it would bypass any confusion when people will submit all sorts of different ratios.
Absolutly right, 300dpi doesn't mean anything if you do not have final printed size.
A stamp (few cm by few cm) can also be printed at 300 dpi.

When submitting to printing, there is usually a dimension on the book, lets say A3 landscape. Files are then constraint to this dimension and the resolution of the files would usually be required to be at least 300 dpi.
that is a specification...all your megapixels values are nonsense, when it comes to printing. :-)
sorry to disappoint, maybe Alex can pitch in here with what he is requiring for final output :-)

well, we are not printing roll books yet! So, it can be expected to be greater then A4 but smaller then A2 in landscape orientation, given that the later will be too hard to handle, the resulting book would more likely be A4-A3 landscape.
So with some common sense here, 300dpi is a standard for delivery of images for print, to commercial printers.
all the best

An important point is that many among us - how many would be something interesting to know - never print their panos. Others are making prints which are intended to be set on a wall but woud not fit in a book.
Both need much more detailed indications than photographers being accustomed to print their panos on 8.5" x 11" or A4 paper sheets...

Yes - but being printed in books is not the only motivation to shoot megapixels . . ![]()

I think, we are mixing up what this thread here is intended for.
Klaus, I believe we are talking printing of a book here, and therefore if your image/pano, is equal or greater then two A3 pages in landscape orientation @ 300dpi, then you have an image that is detailed enough for printing at such a resolution. Anything above that is luxury :-) Now, I am not sure if they are going to let images run across two pages @ A3 size, or if it is only going to be the equivalent of an A4 landscape book?!
We each have different motivations and some have the same or similar, but in the end we are all chasing the same dream, creating amazing images with the tools we have at hand. How we choose to display it, may vary but in the end, we all would like to share what we do with at least some one else.
I am sure you could tell me a thing or two about virtual imaging on the net, a topic I haven't even considered. I focus on printing and tangible display of imaging.

I absolutely cannot log into the panobook web site for submission of pictures.
When I press the login button the page just reloads. When I enter a wrong password it says "incorrect password", but when I give the correct one it just reloads the page, no error message.
I tried yesterday and today, many times from Windows XP/IE 7, Windows Vista/IE 8, and Ubuntu/Firefox 3 - nothing works. I understand that I need JavaScript enabled and I do have that. I can use other websites using JavaScript (like Google Maps).
Please advise, there are only a few days left for submisson!

Hi,
Are black and white images desired for submission? I have at least one I'd like to submit, but the example images from the 2009 Panobook (I don't own it yet, so I haven't seen the rest) shown are all color.
Thanks,
Marc

Les images peuvent ne pas être affichées en vignettes si ce sont des TIFF. Pas de panique, elles sont quand même sur le site.

* Jpeg format prefered but tiff accepted also ( on tiff the preview don't work )
* Size limit 50MB. An average of 10,000 pixels in the widest dimension is nice
* don't upload panorama with aspect ratio greater than 6:1, it won't fit in a book easily
