Hi,
yesterday I tested my first bluetooth-connected-Merlin-to-MacBook-configuration with my EOS 40D. There was no problem with shooting as PW told the head. But one conspicuousness I found:
I connected my cam with a "Hähnel HRC 280" module http://www.amazon.de/Haehnel-Kabel-Fern … amp;sr=1-4 to the Merlin. When both plugs are connected, there is noch access to the menu or replay-function at the camera. If I want to change configuration or want to view shooted pics I have to disconnect one of both plugs.
Is this a bug or a feature? ![]()

Hi,
I've the same as you, and also tested with an EOS 50D. I've seen a problem with the batteries of the camera, they go out very fast while trying PW+Merlin+remote-cable. And with an IS lens, I've noticed the IS is ALLWAYS working when the remote cable is connected on both sides (camera and Merlin). This means that Merlin has always the shutter pressed half.
PW stills works fine, but I now use EOS Utility as shutter.
I've not tried to go to the menu or view the images on the viewer, but I think is the same problem as you.

I think there is a cabling issue: the stereo/mono connection may not be correct with the module...

the problem has to be on the Merlin`s side. If I change the stereo-plug on the side of Merlin into the hand-control there is no problem.
I found an other problem - maybe it hase the same reason:
If I choose "mirror-release" bevore shooting in PW, there is only one trigger signal - that one for the mirror-release but the second one is missing. PW shows correctly the second one but the camera isn`t acting.

now I disassabmled the head and I found a stereo-female-connector in it but only 2 pins are connected. In my opinion the inner contact of the male-connector ist contacted with the red cable an the middle and outer ring are short and connected to the black cable.
It`s the same as I push the button half on my hand-connector if I shoot nightshots. Therefore the display stays black on the camera.
Is it true, I only have to use the inner contakt and the outer ring of the stereo-male-connector, not the middle one?
Would this problem be solved if I by a ordinary stereo-to-mono adapter?

Hi all,
For the stereo plug, the central contact is only "focusing command"
The Tip contact is the "shooting sequence" contact.
Normally on the Merlin, the "ground" shielded cable is connected with the "ground" shielded transmission stereo cable and the 2 others are wired together to the tip contact !
I have not my portable computer with me and could not send a picture, but this picture exist somewere in the forum !

Hi,
I measured at my Merlin that the grounded and den middle contakt are connencted together because of the hull oft the ground contact in the female plug. It is long enough to contact both. There is a third spare connection on the female plug but this is a opener-contact. It seperates between the tip contact an the middle one if the male-plug ist in it.
So I cannot use the functions of the display because my camera ist permanentely "focused" as i plug in the Merlin like pressing the hand-remote a little bit.
I have to find a way to disconnect the middle contact on the way between Merlin and cam.
@claudavh: the bluetooth adapter works fine. We have to resolve the open bill when youre back from holiday. Please contact me if you are back!

thanks to all especially user 120to120 for his email support.

o.k, you have a stereo-cable between the Merlin an your cam. But you only need contacts of the plug - the tip contakt ist the hot one an the outer is the ground. Normaly the middle one is spare and not used, so it is for the focus when you use a cable remote. But the Merlin makes a short circuit between the middle an the outer one - like permanentely focussing via cable remote. Therefore the menu an play button is dead.
I soldered a new cable with male and female plugs ond only connected the tip and the outer contact. It cost about one euro and 5 min to solder. This helps you out and the mirror lookup can be used in PW.
Is it clear now for you?
