My first shots with panoramic head

These are my to first "real" images with a panoramic head (Nodal Ninja 5L) and a 360x180 taken on the beach.
http://ihodet.no/?p=668 (sorry I could not figure out how to embed the 360)
Lots of campers from Germany, Nederlands and Austria camping out here. Some of them have been coming back to this beach year after year.  Please feel free to comment and give advice.

Re: My first shots with panoramic head

Great light in your panos, and great sight, Trond! Could you give some technical and background info on them? Such as ISO, bracketing if any, lens, # of shots, where when why...

The only advice that comes to mind is on getting rid of the 'pinch' you can see at the zenith on the flash panos. Smartblend 1 does that sometimes. You can render the pano again, just the top part, using multiband, and then blend it into your smartblend pano in postprocessing, or you can get rid of it using a resynthesizer script. I don't like getting rid of them using cloning/healing as I used to in the past, because cloning/healing usually leave traces that panographers can easily spot. Getting rid of the tripod, even if you didn't shoot a nadir photo, is much easier, since spotting subtle differences on a gradiated sky is easier than on a grassy rock.

Re: My first shots with panoramic head

Thanks for all the kind words. Lots of good tips there from the dr.

All photos were taken with my Nikon D80, 18-135mm kit lens, Nodal Ninja 5L, w/RD-16 rotator.
f/22 - 1/8 second at 18mm, iso 100, raw format, 15 degr rotation on the NN5L. No bracketing. All photos were taken between 23:00-0:00 at night.

360x180:
f/22 - 1/8 second
129 images (3 rows)
22158x11079

Beach:
26 images
20126x4247

Mountain:
18 images (2 rows)
15490x3838

I need to work on my overlapping, I am probably taking to many photos :-p
I have bought a fisheye lens (Nikon 10.5 mm) it should probably arrive in time for our summer vacation.

I am not sure how to render the pano using multiblend at the top and blending it into smartblend unless you mean I should do it in photoshop. I need to look at the resynthesizer script method too.

Re: My first shots with panoramic head

Render one full 360°x180° using smartblend, then crop to just the top, as in the screenshot, to save time, and render it using multiband. Combine in postprocessing using a gradient linear mask to make the transition smooth.
I also attached an example showing why doing this is a good idea, getting rid of these using clone/heal would really be difficult and a waste of time. Rendering that multiband zenith took me several seconds only. The example has been exagerrated so although its ugly, you can easily see the seams.

The radio tower you see can be seen from most parts of Bodø, Nordland, Norway. I think many of the radio towers in norwegian cities look more or less the same.
