Soldering 220 ohm resistors to

I have had two of these ftdichip based mini USB to TTL serial boards for a while.  I have been wary to try and solder the 220 ohm resistors to the RXD and TXD pins because they are so close together.  I have solder that does not contain lead so it does not flow as well.  Also, I do not solder very often.   Just enough to forget all of my skills for the next time that I solder.

Does anybody have any ideas?  I thought about looking for jumpers and using them to connect the resistors ( instead of the normal use of connecting two pins ).  My Merlin unit is getting dusty and I am using my netbook for normal use instead of tethering to my DSLR : )

Re: Soldering 220 ohm resistors to

the easy way to solder it would be to wrap the wire from the resistors twice around the base of each pin and have them come out parallel with the board.

I would recommend finding a old computer and getting the power connectors out of it, they look like this:

If you don't have any, I can mail you some.

Another way is to tin the parts 1st, then after each part is soldered cover with the heatshrink tubing to protect it..
But yes I understand where your coming from, with my eyes and my wobbly hand it's always in the hands of the gods when I grab that soldering iron wink

awelker, Those connectors with wires might be what I need.  I can solder the resistors to the wires on the connectors you posted before I connect them to the pins.  Then I do not need to worry about heating and damaging the components on the PCB board.
