Frederic, How about this The first message says " You must configure the application before shooting any panoramic image or connecting to the head"
"Please use the Hardware Tab to set any Plugins and Drivers, The Configuration tab for shooting Paramaters before connection".
or something along those lines
Offline
In fact, the only thing which is mandatory to shoot real panoramic image is to be able to drive the head. So, only Plugins-related config *must* be set (-> choosing Merlin-Orion plugin).
Another solution would consist to set the Merlin-Orion plugins as default ones... Maybe the best way?
Offline
Well, the best way is to implement the complete wizard ![]()

I've asked this question before and maybe i misunderstood your answer but what would be the problem in having the plugins set from the config tab. It would require the Shutter option to be a drop down list (As in hardware/Pluging) .
The wizard can direct users to the ONE place(Configuration) and ask for the type of shutter control required (Plugin)
Examole - On opening for the first time PY says 'You have not configured the system - please do so now"
- The config tab opens up and the user sets the Shooting,Mosaic,Camera/lens,Data,Timer,Misc and the YAW-Pitch and in SHUTTER The question is asked MERLIN or PLUGIN" If merlin is selected the merlin /orion dialog box is opened- if Plugin is selected A drop down list as in current plugin appears.
Subsequent openings would then have as defaults the configuration as last used.
Just some thoughts

The reason to have 2 places is that we can't switch from one plugin to another while connected, neither change the driver (bluetooth, serial...). But your idea is maybe useable; let me think about it.

Mediavets, You are a lot more experienced than I at papy and maybe you have tried this but - I have stopped a lot of problems by completely uninstalling the older version before installing a new one . The last 3 times i have had no problems with connection. Just a thought

Found some bugs I don't see posted but I haven't gone through everything in the latest Papywizard2 over the weekend.
I had to cancel one shoot, and the head started behaving a little weird, it would make a 'U' shape going from one picture to the next...shoot and dip down come back up to the next picture and shoot again. I restarted papywizard and it stopped, haven't seen it do it again.
The more annoying one, I've been shooting with the serial cable in Windows, using the EOSutility plugin. Other then the battery too low error when it has plenty of juice(not papywizards fault) it works great. However everytime I restart papywizard the pitch reverts to bluetooth...yaw stays on serial. Don't know why?
Also I meant to ask but now I can't find the screenshots. I saw some that had circles instead of squares for the little graphic showing the mosaic. Wasn't sure why, thought I'd see that change when I installed the new version when I tried it on windows. Speaking of the mosaic image...it doesn't always seem to all fit in the window, and no matter how I orient the head I always seem to be shooting upside down(moving the head up goes into the negative in pitch). Not a big deal, just mentioning.
Anyways tried shooting downtown orlando again...3 gigapixels, just trying to align a bunch of pictures that seemed to be a bit off. Hopefully have it stitched soon.
Thanks,
Matt

Mmmm, strange. Could you send me the log file (in private)? Depending if you shoot a lot after that, it may have been overwritten, or not...

In fact, it was the yaw axis which didn't keep its configuration... I found the bug and fixed it.

AFAIR, I never used circles for the mosaic positions...

I'm not sure to understand... Is it just a display problem, or a head driving problem?

Could this be light leaking through the base of the bubble level and upsetting the optical encoders?
In any case you shoudl stick some back tape over the underside of the bubble level from insise to avoid such problems.

Circles are used for Preset mode shooting positions.

Do you have the vertical arm of the Merlin to the right of the camera?

Only did it once.

Cool

Just seems like it's positioned bellow the window. Doesn't affect shooting though.

Saw a similar post by you or someone and assumed it a joke...and still assuming so? Light Leak? I mean this is a Holga price range pano head I suppose:)

Ahhh...

Need to check again, but I sware I flipped it around twice and shot form the other way only to find it still going into the negative...

No it's not a joke.
Don't forget this mount was designed to be used with an astroscope in the dark!

The head is intended for use in the dark with a telescope. It appears no one considered light passing through the bubble to be a potential problem : lol: I had a gigapixel pano get shot to hell by this problem:lol:
, so I assure you it is not a joke. It took a situation where the sun was at just the right location to shine through to make it happen and, all of a sudden, a 3 degree yaw change became a 20 degree one
!! Put a piece of electricians tape under the bubble level or paint it black on bottom and you will be fine.

Might be what just whopped me over the weekend. Shooting a dune in very bright sun and nothing was working right at all...after schlepping the mess from the parking lot to the beach. Did a nice job on my back which was finally getting better.
hmmm...anyone manage to make an auto-winder for a holga? Would be so fitting to do a pano with it.

I uninstalled my old one, learned how to install using SVN, installed and it works great
This is on my eee PC 900 running Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
Only one issue: I can only start the application from the terminal using "sudo papywizard.sh" while in the directory I installed from.
Any way to fix that?

@claudvh: I don't understand what happens. Did you uninstall the previous version, first? Can you check there are no remaining files, somewhere?
@jriley: Can you tell me the result of all these commands:
$ papywizard.sh (not from papywizard dir)
$ echo $PATH
$ find /usr/local -name "papywizard*"
