Thanks for finding all the alternatives for us, Claude! All I had to do was connect a few wires together, fret a bit over which pin was which, read a manual or two to be sure of things, install Papywizard and IT JUST WORKS! I will be out shooting tomorrow for sure.

Gigapixels, here I come!
Hi John
I want to get going with this project. I bought the nokia and a tronisoft that was never shipped months ago. Now I want to buy what's necessary. Problem is, the picture on the suppliers web site has one little pcb http://www.a7eng.com/products/bluetooth … 00-ser.htm
Claude's pix have some kind of adapter with the antenna?
What exactly did you buy and are you connecting via BT or Cable? ( I prefer not to have to do any soldering)
Regards
Mark

I think you may have been looking at the picture that shows the eb500 in the same photo with the Tronisoft kit, probably to show a size comparison. The eb500 has an antenna on the board itself. This picture shows both; the eb500 is on top.
I have had zero problems with my eb500. I wired the phone cable to it with the 220 ohm resistors, then put it inside a hobby box and it looks very nice ![]()

Hi Mark,
John give you the correct answer, on the picture you have the Parallax above and the other module is the Tronisoft kit who is on the pic just for "size" comparison !
If you buy the Parallax, do it at http://www.trossenrobotics.com/parallax … ppmod.aspx
They have experience wit this module and the module is in stock.
I can allways send to you a "Cable/Connector ready to use" free, just for the shipping costs!
In this case please Email me your "full" adress.
If you buy the "Ursa Minor" at http://www.teleskop-austria.at/prod.php … ntz-blt-hu,
this module is more expensive but you don't need to make a cable yourselve!
Normaly there is no problems for ordering but German can be a problem!
The best way is to send them a Email in English that you want to buy a module and that you are member of the forum ...
You will get all explanations for ordering in English and a price of 89 Euros as member of the forum.
Do you have allready a Merlin head and the cable between the Merlin and your camera ?
P.S. "Howard" have in the past placed an order for you to Tronisoft and was refunded by them after our intervention ! ![]()

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Merlin head...Hi Stewed
How did you go about buying it. I tried and failed. I've no idea what chagres will be incurred at the european end and what shipping is going to be, so I have no idea how much to transfer and I didn't have much success communicating with the company
what did you do to get around all these hassles?
Regards

Hi Mark,
I simply sent an email to info@teleskop-austria.com and a very nice guy named Lajos responded very quickly, answering every question I threw at him. I live in Europe myself so I can't say what the charges and shipping will be to the US. Just keep trying to contact them, I'm sure they will answer eventually. Perhaps they are away on vacation or something...

Thanks for the intervention on the tronisoft front and the info on the eb500. I haven't bought the Merlin yet, as it's no good without the interface. I bought an N3 adapter for my EOS. I'll have to dig out the details about the camera-end cable.

Do-you speak about a RS80N3, who is the remote controler of Canon ? Is that an "original Canon"?
If you speak about that... the cable delivered with the Merlin head will be the only thing you will need !
This cable could be directly connected from one side in the Merlin Head in the other side to the remote RS80N3 !

Hi Claude
I have the TC-80N3. I bought a Calumet CF0061 some time ago. Most have read somewhere that that's what I needed. Worst case, will have to throw something together.

Hi Marc,
The TC-80N3 could not be used !
But you have the Calumet CF0061 wich can be used with a "3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2.5mm Stereo Socket Adaptor"
(also called "Stereo 2.5mm Female To 3.5mm Male")
You can find it on Amazon :
http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-2-5mm-Fema … grid_i_1_1
or on Ebay Object numbers : 310116524967
... I am sure that you can find it also in a RadioShack/Tandy Store or equivalent !![]()

Hello,
The new version of the Ursa Minor Bluetooth Interface is almost finished:
It has an output to control the exposure of the DSLR camera.
Not only the shooting, but the focusing output also implemented. Notice the two additional LEDs (exp and focus)

I finally found a wifi-to-serial module, which can be used with the Merlin head:
http://serialio.com/products/mobile/wifi/WiSnapKit1.php
https://serialio.com//store/product_inf … cts_id=613
I will buy one and make some tests. Stay tuned.

Hi Fréderic,
With this system you should have a "WiFi router ?

No, the module can be used in a ad-hoc config; in this case, it acts as an access-point, if I understood correctly, so it is transparent for the laptop. Then, you just connect on a network socket and send datas which are in turn written on the serial bus. And all datas incoming from the serial bus are sent back on the socket.
Papywizard already implement the networks socket driver, so there is nothing to do on this side. You just use system tools to connect to the device, like on any other AP. But I don't know how complex it really is to setup the module; this is why I want to buy one...

So functionally it should allow the implementaion of a longer range wireless connection between a Papywizard host and the Merlin/Orion mount (than is possible using Bluetooth) - is that the idea?
Any other benefits?

Well, I don't know for you, but I often have troubles with bluetooth, on every platforms. It is frequent that I have to reboot Windows so it sees again the bluetooth adapter, and even under linux, I have troubles with the service which manages the BT keypass ![]()
Tcp/IP protocol is much more universally implemented than BT stacks.
And, yes, we should obtain a longer range, but it is not that bad with BT (I don't plan to be too far from my camera so someone can pick it up before I can reach it!).

Hi Andrew ,
In theory the Wifi 802.11b can go to 300 meters but I have neer seen a device with a so long range ...![]()
Hi Fréderic,
What about Zigbee/802.15.4 ? range 120 meters but "very cheap"

One question that comes to mind is the power consumption between Wifi and Bluetooth, somehow I imagine Wifi to have more of a power drain than Bluetooth. This is probably why Bluetooth is used more in small portable devices.

Yes, sure, Wifi needs more power. About Zigbee, the problem is on the laptop side: you need another module!

Hi Frederic,
I'm new to the forum. I was wondering if the WIFI solution worked? I'd much prefer to use WIFI. I want to use it with my Mac Powerbook. I've bought my Merlin and I'm just trying to figure out the best way to configure it with my Mac. I own a Nikon D90
and I plan on using it with my Nikon 80mm to 400mm. Along with my Nikon fisheye. I own an Automate from Gadget Works but its a pain to use because of its Bluetooth connection fails more than it works. I've had it for 3 weeks. Wish I could return it...
Will the Mac Version of Papywizard work on an ITouch using WIFI?

I didn't test the wifi module yet; it has been ordered by Kolor for me, and should arrive in a few days.
What is a iTouch? If it runs MacOS 10.5, then Papywizard should work. If not, it won't.

Hi "blazarus"

- Type of BT module or Wired connection ?
- Type of Merlin head (GoTo or Non Goto), where do you have ordered ?

Hi Guys,
So far I bought a Skywatcher Model S11320. Will this work? I downloaded the Mac version of Papywizard. Seems to run fine. I much prefer WIFI. Hope the test works. I noticed in Papywizard that their is no WIFI configuration. Does this code have to be written or will the serial port work? I live in San Diego CA so I can get one of these WIFI Serial IO to try out quickly. What should I do? Is their away to tether it to a Mac for the present. I'll read claudevh link. I might find it their...
Thanks,
Bruce

Hello Tamas (Ursa Minor)
Will your Bluetooth device work with Mac Powerbook? Also will it work with a Nikon D 90 ?
Thanks

Hi Blazarus,
Fréderic (FMA38) the father of Papywizard is working on the WiFi plug-in, he is waiting for the material ...
Knowing him, this wil not take years !!!
