as i understood Andrew the "fast" mode is just for moving the head by pressing the arrow-keys and NOT when PW is moving the head to a shooting position . . .

Because of the PW´s moves to the next shooting position usually is relative short compared to the moving with the arrow-keys the motors shouldn´t be forced not stronger by the moves to shooting positions than by manual moving by the keys . . right?

Re: Powering the Merlin/Orion

I just compared for the first time the behaviour of the head controlled by a PC laptop to the N800.
I mean the head moves a lot faster when it´s controlled by PW-Laptop.

Is this possible?

and a rewiew :

It seems to be a cool power device !
not so expansive : 149€ttc (without solar kit).

for that amount of money you will have about 6 of these http://tinyurl.com/czrv8k , incl. shipment...

Yes - i read it before. The price seems a bit suspicious to me . . . Where did you buy it?
I thought about taking a small 12V motorcycle battery and clamb it to a tripod leg.
But i think a LiIo battery surely is the best.

best, Klaus

bought it at the tinyurl-link. (mailed you)
2 items incl. shipment 55 euro, no import or taxproblems.
Arrived in a nice brown enveloppe.
Because of the Chinese NewYear shipping took some longer time.
Paul and Gordon should have the same units right now.

Re: Powering the Merlin/Orion

My idea was to mount these units like this.
With magnetic or Velcro/"Klettband" parts.
Any better ideas ?
Are magnetic parts not good for Merlin and/or battery ?

And a much shorter cable.
When using a battery on one of the tripodlegs you will get a cable problem after 2-3 rounds smile

It shouldn't! I really don't understand what can cause such behaviour...

Am not shure - i didn´t measure it - just by the sound of the motors. They sound different and visually it seems to move faster.
Tommorrow i´ll check with identical presets and fresh batteries.
cool

Ok. But there is maybe something with your Merlin head. Can you give me the output of the logs, just after power it up?

Re: Powering the Merlin/Orion

Paul, was just wondering if that battery worked out ok?  I still see them around and the price seems reasonable.

It worked great up to that day, when the lousy charger passed away ...

I did not figure out an alternative charger.

Re: Powering the Merlin/Orion

Hi Paul
1)Did you replace the 220V plug ? or still using the original crap version.
2) is the light on on the block ?
It should work.
But there are specs on the block and I don't think it's very hard to get a better/other one.

Re: Powering the Merlin/Orion

when I plugged the charger (with the crap) into the outlet it makes "peng" inside the charger ...
the charger does not output any voltage, diode is off
