i seem to have problems exporting image files which are big. How can I get around this.
to get a qualified answer you should spend more infos in detail ...otherwise people will ask their crystal ball
To render big images, the only worth format is psb. With anything else, you'll get trouble for sure because of file format limits.

Yes - and more than 30000px wide you have to use at least Photoshop CS3 - no previous versions handles this sizes.IF you use Photoshop. Working with files of that size requires some setup.Paul´s right: some more informations would be essential.best, Klaus
i keep getting this message - not enough disk space. to my surprise! I am trying to export it to a 1 terabyte external HD!
Make sure your temp directory (the APP temp dir, not the OS one) is also on a partition with lots of space.
If your drive that you are saving to is formatted with FAT32 file system (most external drives come that way) you can only save files up to 4GB and it will give you the out of space error for files larger than 4GB
