Merlin with Canon EOS 30D and f2.8L lenses

Hi All

I've read the multi-tude of threads on requirements for merlin/pappywizard and was surprised how cost effective this solutions is. I think I'm going to take the plunge (with the teleskop-austria bluetooth interface). I will be doing a lot of cityscapes with a lot of close objects, so I need the NPP set correctly.

I have an EOS 30D and L-series f/2.8 lenses (16-35mm f2.8L, 28-70mm f2.8L), which I would prefer to use. Does anybody here happen to have this setup with the Merlin? If so did you manage to accurately align the NPP? If you did, would you mind explaining how and any additional equipment you had to buy.

Somebody hinted at something new coming in early 2009 (amore adjustable head?) Can anyone elaborate on this?

Regards

Mark

Mark,

AFAIK no-one has yet tried using the new Teleskop-Austria Bluetooth-TLL interface unit with  Merlin/Orion and Papywizard.

It should work but...

Re: Merlin with Canon EOS 30D and f2.8L lenses

Hi Mark,

With your Canon 30D and ....
if your "EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM" is from the first serie (diameter 83.5 mm), you will have no problem to mount your camera on the Merlin mount
"without any modification" except the dismantling of the "original support" (T form)
Have a look how herafter (sorry in french but "visual") :
http://www.autopano.fr/wiki/action/view … e_fixation

The pictures show there are for a Canon 40D + Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 Zoom (same diameter as your 16-35 !) .
The only problem is that you can't reach the "Zenith" position but this will probably not necessary ... you can take more pictures "near" the zenith ...

I have also read that you want to use the "teleskop-austria bluetooth interface", this has not yet been tested by one of our contributors but I am sure that this will work, "Teleskope-Austria" are serious guy's .
You have also the oportunity to buy at a "fairly good" price, have a look herafter:
