I would like to create a nice icon for Papywizard, but I'm not very good at drawing... I have some ideas (a wizard hat, like the Fantasia wizard's one, with a pano image), bu can't realize them ![]()
If someone is interested, fell free to contact me.

Frédéric,
I have found the image of Mickey Mouse Fantasia hat. It will be very difficult to adapt its form in such a maner that it will be evident that it is a hat. Or, perhaps I can't imagine that? Sent me your drawing, or any picture to show what you are thinking about.
Don't laugh at my project. May be there is an idea to develop. The joker hat is easier to recognise. The joker means "a trump card"!

It makes me laugh, but I also like it. I know that it is very difficult to do realistic logos, so I appreciate this one. It is clear that it can be very easy to recognize.
I'm thinking to something like that:

Not bad, but.... a little bit artless.
As usual, with any graphic sign there are 2 problems that you have to resolve:
the recognition of the idea that the sign is supposed to represent.
the aesthetic form of the drawing.
Make a test with some people showing them your drawing and asking « what it is? » Does they recognise a wizards hat? A hat is a hat if it is on someone head. Look at the logo of the French Republic which is composed with the profile of a young woman head covered with an ancient hat and « la cocarde ». By association of ideas, it means for us – the French Revolution. So, we understand that the drawing represents Marianne, the symbol of our Republic. Without Marianne we would think that perhaps it is a Smurf's hat...
In Papy Wizard case, it is more subtil because it is not a head that is important but a hat! And that the head is not a human head! You can represent a camera under your hat, but probably it will not be intelligible. The wizard hat is a very special and rare hat....
The graphic form becomes aesthetic when it is pleasant to see. It is very subjectif and “cultural”, and so on... but we can surely say, that it has to be simple and intelligible. Simple, because the symbols are always in 2 dimensions and never try to be “realistic”. Simple, because the size of the logo has to be very small.
I am not sure that I shall be able to draw something that you will appreciate, but I shall try. Feel free to choose between the ideas and proposals.

I totally agree with your analysis! BTW, I found the wizard.gif fil on the net; it's not mine...
I think that the merlin's hat alone will be enough; I agree that putting something under will be very hard (I was thinking to put a pano-image, but it is even harder!).

It will be used as logo on the main sceen (if I find some place), as desktop entry, on the Halp > About page... Depending of the usage (so the size), we could add Papywizard name. But not for the desktop icon...
The best is to do it as svg image, so it can be resized without lost. If you can't, just make a large png image (mini 100x100); I'll try to convert it to svg...

As I expected, this idea of wizard's hat is limited by its realisme. The hat is mainly recognizable by its blue color conic shape and the yellow or white stars on it. The hats brim is not indispensable, but it makes the hat more “hat”.
The problem is that my drawing can be figured at “normal”, let us say 300 x 300 px size. If the icon is smaller, just about 100 x 100 px it becomes inintelligible. At 50 x 50 px any detail (stars) is not visible and it will be impossible to know what does it represents.
I'm looking for a different graphic representation, of this hat.
It may be interesting to develop in parallel others concepts... Maybe a lighthouse?
If somebody finds a new idea associating PapyWizard, it could be useful!

An animated round face like that
where the eyes, the mouth and possibly the nose and the hat are moving ...like a panohead does. I'm not certain an animation would be somethng practical and it could be disturbing but ...

Where does the 'papy' part of the name derive from?
In English - pap:

I like the idea of Georges! It would be funny! Some years ago I was working with 3DStudio Max2, where everything was possible. Today, I have not this software. But it could be made with a color plasticine... What do think about that Frédéric?
I tried to develop the idea of joker (jester, fool, buffoon..). In Tarot, the fool is not so fool; he is interpreted as an initiated man. Stanczyk, the royal buffoon (XVII c.) has even became a symbol of lucidity for Polish people... The main atribute of joker is his hat with a jingle-bells, but also his scepter, called bauble, a kind of baton (stick) with a small sculpture of his own head with his hat (look at my drawing).
The joined animation was made with SketchUp, an excellent software for architectural volumes but not for more complicated forms imagined by Georges.

@hub: that's not so bad! I'll try to make something from your drawing...
@mediavets: papywizard stands for PAnoramicPYthonWIZARD...
@GURL: I would love an animated logo, but most places where I plan to use it don't allow animated images...

Perhaps then one could do something around the snake theme? A pano coils around rather like a snake - and reticulated python has a very decorative skin a bit like a pano image?
Maybe a stylised snake in an upwards diminishing diameter spiral coil, head at the bottom tapering up to tip of the tail, the shape also being reminiscent of a wizard's hat?

Seems there is a stylised snakey logo/icon for Python - maybe some variant of that could be used (with their permission)?

Ok, thanks to hub for the papywizard icon design. Here is the result, and what it looks like on the Nokia...
