APP 64 bits Window version: how to use it?

Which processors can run APP 64 bits Window version, is "X86-64" instruction set enough ?
Which Windows version can run it, are some versions more efficient ?
Are some mother-board or OS settings needed ?

Windows XP x64 edition
Windows Vista 64 (most retail vista cds let you install either 32 or 64)

You need a 64 bit processor (there isn't an official name that I know of though x86-64 is pretty commonly used)
Most recent processors and motherboards are 64 bit compatible.

For AMD processor, 64bits is called 64_x86, for intel, it's the extension called EMT64.
If you have such a processor ( everyone sold actually are ), and you have a 64 Bits OS, that's okay.
