APG 3.0.4, Mac OS/X 10.8.2 - Large Gigapan Import Hang(s)

When doing a large Gigapan Import (3 x 14 x 63 = 2,646) - The application hangs once when building the import preview, and then again when finding pictures. The process does finish eventually, although control point detection seems to have mucked up a blue sky area, which was getting really good at 3.0.3..... are there log files I should be collecting when I see a repeatable "Hang" conditions?

BTW, can you guys please give the application a real Apple App Name.... _APP_NAME_ seems like a default provided by a compatibility toolkit, just say'n

Thanks

Re: APG 3.0.4, Mac OS/X 10.8.2 - Large Gigapan Import Hang(s)

I've no solution/reason for you that could solve your Problem now...

but ;-) seeing your amount of Images I ask for more data from your side:

see the calculation from Hans:
http://www.kolor.com/forum/p87033-2011- … -58#p87033

for scatch disk: I assume you've 18mp Images... so 18mp x 4 x 2646 = 190 GB free space Minimum for your temp Folder. I just can give the hint to place this temp Folder on a SSD and not on same disc as your MacOS nore your source/Destination Images are/will be placed to.

Memory: lets asume you've running your Mac with 32 GB RAM... than according the calculation from Hans: 32GB RAM :: 190 GB scratch = 1:5.9
according to Hans:

-1:n with n >4 (...) Autpano will have a hard time getting your job done and is even likely not able to finish the job.

so if you've 32 GB RAM give autopano time (1-3 days)
if you'Ve <32GB RAM: process the brackets externally in photomatix, oloneo, enfusegui or others and than you only have to handle 882 Images.
with around 850 Images I can guarantee that a PC with 16 GB RAM can do the Job in 2-5 hours

Re: APG 3.0.4, Mac OS/X 10.8.2 - Large Gigapan Import Hang(s)

Thanks for the pointers... spec's
RAM: 24Gb
CPU: 8 x 2.4 Ghz (16 CPU's for APG)
Scratch Disk: SSD - 400GB+ free
Image Disk: Raid 5 - 850GB + free
Image Size: 15Mp

So, I calculate 15mp x 4 x 2646 = 158 Gb Scratch
and then 24GB:158GB = 1:6.6  so not good news....
I will look into doing the HDR merge outside of APG, thanks for the list of tools, do you have any recommendations or know of reviews that are worth reading?

Thanks

try enfusegui - ist free/donationware and available also for mac - and if one set of Settings is found you can Batch process your big Queue in once...
http://software.bergmark.com/enfuseGUI/Main.html

Commercial ones I use and decide from case to case which one I prefer:  www.oloneo.com and www.hdrsoft.com with Focus on hdrsoft/photomatix. Oloneo photo engine is only for Windows available...

It's a Mid-2010 model Mac Pro with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB.

Ask Kolor how far they support ATI card´s GPU regarding the editor-speed. Afaik there are issues with ATI´s drivers for a long time - which
ATI doesn´t care much about.

best, Klaus

PS.: use a fast seperate drive ONLY for APG_temp-files. Avoid using the system-drive aside from running the system - run APG from a seperate
and fast drive.
Keep the system drive as empty as it´s possible.
