360° Gigapixel

Hey there,

I got a new 360° Gigapixel and a little problem stitching it.
Edit View: http://in.futureweb.at/temp/gpix/apg_quer.jpg

It's diagonally from left/top to right/bottom - guess when rendered the edged would not fit together ... how can I fix this?
Already tried it with "Rotate - Roll" - but then it got "wavy" ... ?

Thank you
Andreas Schnederle-Wagner

Re: 360° Gigapixel

Hi Andreas
You can rotate the whole panorama (Transformation, Roll), set 0,1 as step and turn it until it's ok.

Re: 360° Gigapixel

either I'm blind or I just can't find a numeric rotate for the whole pano?

Do the 'edges' stitch together?

Check by relocating the centre point. And checking whether APG believes the HFOV is 360 degrees.

If so then I have to presume that your pano head wasn't level?

Did you use a robotic pano head? If so, which brand/model?

Re: 360° Gigapixel

well - didn't look before - right now I noticed APG believes it's a 350° Pano - and not 360° :-(
Was shoot with Epix Pro Pano Head

Any way to convince APG that it IS in fact a 360°? ;-)

If you didn´t shoot 360° you wouldn´t be able to "close" the cylinder. But with a cylinder it´s easier than it is with a sphere: maybe you can "close" the gap by retouching!
The very unregularly structure of the mountains maybe helpful.

Maybe you can generate faces and close the gap in one of them. I never did that with a cylinder . . but it might work!

Well - it's definately a 360° Pano ... but APG won't believe me that! ;-)

Did you try to use PTP for making a cylinder?

Did you use the Force 360 option in the Gigapan Import filter?:

It's been a while sinceI last rendered a 360° ... and of course I forgot this little switch ... :-/
Will try it again with this enabled and report! ;-)

Thx

Re: 360° Gigapixel

Hi
It's a problem, if you have a closed 360º-panorama, and the head wasn't level exactly enough.
Then you get this wavy view and have no tools to straighten it in APG.

Re: 360° Gigapixel

Hi Klaus
So please, explain how to do it !
I tryed out everything I could find. But no change.
(We talk about cylindrical panos, not spherical).

Re: 360° Gigapixel

alright - looks better now! ;-)
Only the very unsharp mountain-cross is giving me big troubles ...

http://in.futureweb.at/temp/gpix/apg_360.jpg

Any way to correct the "wave" in the middle?

Re: 360° Gigapixel

straighten tool might help a bit
BUt you'll probably have to crop a bit for a nice rectangle in the end

Re: 360° Gigapixel

because of the "wave" I would have to crop some mountain tops ... or reconstruct sky in PS later (which is a bit of a problem because of the size of the gigapixel ... ~580.000 Pixels width)
Will try Automatic Horizon - maybe it works!

just looked at the control points of the mountain-cross ... they are completly messed up ... :-/

Re: 360° Gigapixel

Hi
Exactly for this case, if you fight with a wavy 360º-pano (cylindrical),
APG lacks a tool to make the pano straight and optimize/transform it to rectangular shape.
So you loose a lot of image.

If you shoot with a pano head, it's cause you haven't level your head well, it's your fault. But if you shoot the pano handheld, e.g. with a compact camera, it's the normal case and resulting in a wavy pano.

So such a transform-tool will be a great help.

Sorry - i forgot the VL-tool might be not working with cylinders. That´s because i never do cylinders.

Re: 360° Gigapixel

as it seems I can't correct it within APG I will try it in PS later ... guess that's going to be a lot of hours ... :-/
But troubles won't end ... APG won't let me Render the Pic ... complains about too much overlapping images for Antighost ... I don't get it - as I already rendered larger 360° Gigapixels with the same settings ... sad

Error: http://in.futureweb.at/temp/gpix/apg_memory_issue.jpg
Output/Infos: http://in.futureweb.at/temp/gpix/apg_settings.jpg

I even tried setting cacheBlocSize in regedit to different values (that's what helped me rendering the other big 360° images) - tried values between 4 - 11 (decimal)

Re: 360° Gigapixel

Sorry: i was wrong - but was correct in my first answer regarding this.

The vertical-line-tool very well works with cylinders.
See it here: http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/ … Correction

Works in planar- and spherical projection also. I use it for spheres nearly all the time, when i have the camera/head unlevelled up to 45°. This is VERY wavy, believe me . . big_smile

Hi Andreas,

In gigapan import, there is check box 'Force 360 panorama' in the settings. If this one is not checked, then Autopano will not search for links between the first and last column. Therefore the panorama will never be seen as 360.

Hope it helps,
Thomas
