Does anybody know . .

. . . the focal-length and sensor-size of a GoPro hero3 Silver?

We tried to stitch some test-shots but failed with finding both values.

Google didn´t enlighten us at all in that case . . . cool

best and thanks in advance, Klaus

Re: Does anybody know . .

gopro 3 silver edition (11mp sensor):
1/2,5 Zoll Sensor
f 2.8 - 6 element aspherical lens

older gopro hd hero model had an:
approx. 5 x 4 mm CMOS-Chip (1/2,5-Zoll-Format)

the goprp hd hero 2 model (11mp seonsor) had an:
1/2,3-Zoll-Sensor

according to gopro 3 silver edition the camRaw modus does use the CMOS sensor best

Re: Does anybody know . .

ah - bingooo - found:

the gopro black edition does have this seonsor inside:
Sony has now released the IMX117CQT, a Diagonal 7.81 mm Type 1/2.3 approx. 12.40M-effective pixel, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor
http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cx_n … 117cqt.pdf

source (with all other hardware sources included):
http://goprouser.freeforums.org/hero3-b … 10016.html

silver edition does have a 11mp sensor - I assume its the same of the GoPro HD Hero 2

Hi Georg!

Thank you!wink

But i need the precise numbers of pixels and the precise dimensions of the sensor as well as the precise focal-length for designing a rig.
The informations one gets from GoPro are rather . . . . nebulous big_smile
Guess i write a mail to the GoPro people.

best to you, Klaus

PS: Sony´s not an option.

Re: Does anybody know . .

Hi Klaus,

the Sony link: its the data for the black edition
Under http://goprouser.freeforums.org/hero3-b … 10016.html it is referenced. In debuglog you can see it:

Code:

1.    [00000631] *================ Sensor Driver Rev Info ================*
2. [00000631] [IMX117] IMX117_Rev_20120815
3. [00000639] [IMX117] Sensor HW Reset
4. [00000658] [IMX117] Sensor_init, mode = 40, time = 31 ms
1.    [00000658] ================== Sensor mode info ==================
2. [00000658] Sensor mode: 40, Downsample: 0x2
3. [00000658] [sensor window] W: 2084, H: 1524
4. [00000658] [capture window] W: 2016, H: 1500
5. [00000658] frame_length_lines: 1925, line_length_pck: 3120
6. [00000658] row_time: 10.8330 us, VB: 4604.0250 us, HB: 3.8333 us

according to wiki entry the GoPro 3 Silver Edition has the same sensor like the older HD Hero 2 its just smaller in case dimensions.
wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GoPro#HD_H … er_Edition

the HD Hero 2 Seonsor:

1/2,3 Zoll CMOS Sensor,  ca. 11,04 mm Diagonale, 3840 x 2880 Pixel,
http://www.pennula.de/kameratechnik-gop … sional.htm

and according following source the 1/2.3 zoll CMOS Sensor the dimensions can be calculated to: 6,12mm (w) x 4,6mm (h) with 9mm focal (but this does not fit to the 11,04mm diagonal)
http://www.fotowelt-online.de/fototheor … nsoren.php

so best would be qualified answer from gopro (or dismantling one ;-))

Georg
