If you deselect all Layers and/or all images of any layer no image(s) is/are displayed - thats normal. only the squared grid is visible.
if you now activate the preview a pano is still displayed (screenshot)...

so in conclusion all loaded images (selected or deselected) are included in the pano preview.
from logial point of view if I wanna eperiment with different single images by individual selection I also wanna have an preview including only the selected images.
