This christmas me and my wife visited the Ice hotel i Jukkasjärvi and I decided to shoot a panorama tour.

The tour consists of 28 positions and was shot with a Nikon D700, Nikon 10.5 mm lens and a Manfrotto pano head. I used 3 stop bracketing and 9 angles (6+zenit+2xnadir), files were converted to 16-bit tiff before stitching (to adjust white balance and reduce chromatic aberration). It was stitched with Auto Pano Giga 3.0 and the tour was built with Panotour pro 1.8 and more or less just with standard functionality. The only XML-editing was to eliminate tumbnalis and shortcuts to corridors.
I didn't shot extra nadir images to eliminate the tripod. Because of the cold it wanted to keep it simple. But I did 2 shots down with a 90° rotation of the head. This to keep the tripode hole small.

Shooting in arctic conditions are difficult. This day it was -30° C outdoors. Inside the hotel it is "only" -8°. When entering with a colder camera you get condensation and then ice on camera and front lens. My release cable got stiff and broke after about 14 panoramas. I have a Merlin head, but in this climate manual equipment is more reliable. You need warm glowes. Some images have low contrast and spots from the ice on the front lens. I cleared the lens several times. White balance is another interesting topic when shooting snow. Here they use a lot of cold LED-lights to enhance the ice. I tried to keep the original feeling, but it's also a matter of taste. It took about 4.5 hours to shot all panoramas.

They build a new hotel every winter, and then i melts away during summer. This was shot December 23 and the hotel is open to public but still under construction. I am a newbie at this type of photography. This was my first larger normal panotour, previously I have shoot panoramas for Öresundsbron (a large bridge), but that is for technical documentation. Any feedback are welcome, I am trying to learn!
