apg 3.1 - 2.6 The Good, The Bad and the Ugly..

The biggest disappointment I have found with apg is the HDR and LDR features (The Ugly). However, the most awesome feature I have experimented with is apg’s ability to detect and stitch a mix match of hand-held captured images and stitch them, very very quickly and accurately (The Good). I tried importing the same images into PTGui and it turned out to be a dogs dinner.. It failed to detect the mixed images. Not even close. This is truly a great feature of apg. Just amazing..!!!

However.. There are failings ..  (The Bad)

The dehaze plug-in is just awesome however it seems to effect the stitching/blending quality dramatically. I tried using the Lens Correction plug-in, Chromatic Aberration and Vignetting filters but it did not seem to work. You can see this in the screen shot.. I have ticked the Split Screen to show the difference but nothing changes..

When trying the same Dehaze filter with apg 3.1, it did not work.. I think there is a bug.. I can select all of the imagers and then go to the plug-in but it only dehazed 3 images despite the fact that I had selected all of the images, which you can see in the screen shots.

I am confused. I am sure I read before apg 3.1 was released that the dehaze plug-in filter was going to have some of the features of the Photoshop dehaze plug-in.

Some of the issues here may well be my lack of knowledge and understanding in using  apg and the plug-in filters.. So any suggestions on what to try is very welcome..

One thing is certain, apg has succeeded in my opinion with creating a software app that has the ability to detect a multitude of images and make sense of them.. I am going to have fun with this feature for sure. Its always a worry to try to group different images into individual folders but not only apg detects the images it does so with images shot handheld.. I love this feature.. Most defiantly the GOOD!!  big_smile

Hello,

Regarding to NeutralHazer behavior (3 images instead of all images), it is a limitation of the trial version. Is your version registrated ?

Re: apg 3.1 - 2.6 The Good, The Bad and the Ugly..

Unfortunately I do not have the dehaze filter plugin for Photoshop... The apg dehaze plugin on the service looks awesome but its a bit like the HDR... only in reverse.. This plugin really needs to work after it is stitched since doing it prior to stitching really effects the results..

As for the stitching of hand held images, apg is just awesome..  My zoom lens is not the best, its just the D90 kit but it still stitched really well.. It was also a very hazy day.. If I could use apg to dehaze this single stitched image it would be fine I guess but apg will not allow me to import a single image..

Re: apg 3.1 - 2.6 The Good, The Bad and the Ugly..

Well that worked well Georg...big_smile  But I had to reduce the size of my images since apg crashed, but that is not apg, its my iMac with low RAM.. if you compare this images with the last one I posted, it is clear.. lollol that the dehaze is a great filter plugin... big_smile

The process is very valued and the very best way of using the dehaze plugin for sure.. It makes a huge difference rather than dehaze first and then try to stitch, that just doesn't work too well.. So this is now 'The Good!' big_smilebig_smile

One of the other images has a huge amount of sky, but apg still stitched it very well using my hand held shot images... 'The Good'

I had a thought that if I stitched my HDR bracketed images as individual layers and then brought them together after stitching in the same way I did the dehaze, that it might work better.. But, the file size are far too big to load individually and even if I reduced the image size, the stitching is different with each bracketed set so there is a lot of blurring....

There are so many great features .. The Good!, about apg, but if only the bracketed HDR/LDR worked better... I read so many others are experiencing issues and most of those who say nothing, have probably either moved on to use Photomatix etc or gave up with it altogether. Fusing bracketed shots in apg at the present time is still far too hit and miss.. In my opinion is defiantly 'The Ugly', it pulls a great software app down... I realise that some users have having limited success but even those users would have to agree it could be a lot better..
