Why APG3 creates groups with ONE picture?

Until now i created panoramas with the Canon tool.
Now i heard about AP 3 and wanted to give it a try.
So i told the programm to search for panoramas in the folder of my last vacation.

I was surprised that it found MANY groups wich contain only ONE single (JPEG) picture!

Why?

It would be great to have a setting to tell the program to just look for panoramas containing more than > pictures.
Because i make a minimum of three pictures for a panorama and APG also creates groups with 2 pictures wich can not be a panorama for me.

Automatic Searching for panoramas in a folder  does not work, IMO.
You can specify the average number of photos, and the max time lapse, but APG does not take it into account.
I tried with average = 4 and max time = 60 sec, and I got A LOT of groups, many with one single photo.

Hi!

Though i realized long time that APP/APG recognizes groups of pano-shots very well it´s nevertheless wise to sort groups of shots in seperate folders before starting to use APG.
It´s obvious that images can resemble each other without belonging definitely to the same pano-group so how would an application know they´re rather equal - but do not belong all to the same panorama?

Take some time to prepare and make folders with clear naming. That makes working very much easier and more structured.

APG is a very powerful application - take time to study the documentation and tutorials how to use it appropriately winkcool

best, Klaus

Fully agree, but a feature which is provided (folder analysis) should (more or less) work.
What is the meaning of a 'group' of one single photo ?

Hello Christian,

There is indeed area for improvement here. Issue 1700 opened to fix it.

Re: Why APG3 creates groups with ONE picture?

I am very happy with the grouping mechanism. Loading the photos often result in a perfect result. When on or more photos are seperate I jus increase the seconds parameter so larger gaps are allowed between photos of one and the same panorama. The way we work, 80 seconds is often good enough.

I always check my left column of groups before detection and always have the option on to have all photos in one panorama as default.

Thanks, Hans!! I completely forgot that this option exists . . . cool

Doing commercial work nevertheless i prefer to sort images into precisely named folders before i begin to RAW-process or HDR-process them and then stitch them.

But when i do panos privately i like to take this option of sorting automatically.

Re: Why APG3 creates groups with ONE picture?

Well to each his own. I only do commerciall work and like to spend an average of 15 minutes on each panorama.
Splitting the photos that are send to me quickly saves me some minutes again.
