I am using a Sigma 8mm, shootng 4 images around (Actualty 12 with bracketed sets)
When I stitch with PTGui Pro, i am able to set the FOV to 180, and this results in a perfect Nadar and Zenith.
When I stitch the same images in AutoPan Giga, it always sets the FOV to less than 180 and the results are a black area in the Nadar and Zenith.
Is there a way I can set it so that AutoPan always used 180 as the FOV? (AutoPan Giga has much better results for the blending than PTGui)

Just tell the APG-settings the focal-length and the sensor-size and that it´s a fisheye. No need to tell it the fov also.
If you have black areas still it indicates that you didn´t shoot full 360x180°. Can you set a link here to the PTGui-result?

Here are the images from the same source files stiched in Autopan and PTGui.
PTGui has a perfect nadar/zinith Autopan has quite a larde black hole on both.

Shooting 4-around with no zenith or nador shots you will get a 'hole' somewhere.
To avoid a 'hole' at the zenith youy should pitch up your 4-around row by 5-7 degrees. This will leave 'hole' the nadir but you can handle that in a variety of ways.

Thanks mediavets, I am shooting with a Nikon D5100 + Sigma 8. Nodal Ninja R1 on a Nodal Ninaj pole.
As you can see in the shots, I have a tiny hole in the nadar and a perfect stich in the zinith when I use PTGui. But I am trying to learn how to use AutoPan to get the same (or better) quality. The issue I have and am trying to solve here is the HUGE difference in the size of the nadar/zenith that results with Auto Pan.
PTGui calculates the Focal Length as 8.24mm but Auto Pan comes up with 12mm ... resulting in the big differnence...

klausesser can you expand on that in a way that will give me some idea on how I can get AutoPan to produce the results I am seeing out of PTGui. I have searched high and low in AutoPan and can see no referecne any where to a "Sensor-Factor" setting.
In your original responce you said "Just tell the APG-settings the focal-length and the sensor-size and that it´s a fisheye."
I have the settings correct for Focal Lenth and lens, but I can not find a setting anywhere for "Focal Length"

An 8mm focal length lens on a 1.5x crop factor sensor - like your D5100 - gives an effective focal length of 12mm.
Do you lose the EXIF data when preprocessing the images before using them as input to APP?APG?
If not then APP/APG should detect both the camera make/model (and hence sensor factor) and lens focal length automatically - see screenshot below.
Can you make a set of images available - just 4-around not a bracketed set - so we could test stitch them?

Hello,
two little questions here:
#1 - I didn't shoot full 360x180°, my FOV is now 158deg. Is there any way to export image in 360x180? I wouldn't mind about black areas.
#2 - Is it possible to retouch those "black areas" in your software? Or can you recommend me some other product for doing that?

There are two ways to force a 360x180 pano FOV in spherical projection.

If you don´t have 360x180°: use the crop-tool in PanotourPro. This way you get an undistorted equirectangular in which the downlook-angle
is restricted because there´s no information and you cropped it.

Klaus: Yes, I know I couuld simply crop it and restrict vertical FOV. But in this case, it's pretty important for me to have it in 360x180.
Now I see that it's very hard to correct the missing parts. But is it impossible?

Hi.. If you send me the nadir cube face, I will see how I go with it.. If its ok, I will send you the steps to achieve a nice nadir finish..

You can make cubefaces from the equirectangular rendering APG gives you. But you must render it as a full sphere 360x180°! In that case all geometrics are correct - but you have a black hole in the bottom. This can be easily retouched in PS, when you make cubefaces and work on the "d" (down) face.
To make cubefaces use "convert sphere to cube droplet" from the KRPano-tools. After havig retouched the face use the "convert cube to sphere droplet" for making it equirectangular again.
This is a very easy process - takes you about 10min.
