APG 3.0 A3 - Masking. How to use the targets effectively

Hi -

I seem to be having mixed success on using the masking, and I think it's because maybe I don't fully understand exactly how I should be using the targets.

The video example shows just a single click being necessary for masking out the guy on the bike, but I've had a lot of difficulty trying to use masking successfully to tell APG to ignore bits of buildings in this pano -

Any guidance on when I should be able to use a single target, and when I might want to be a bit more liberal and splatter quite a few of them about?

I'm almost there now in fixing all the stitching issues in this test, but it has been through quite a lot of trial and error.

Kind regards,

Gerald.

the images does have an overlapping area. mark in the overlapping area a ghost with a red dot.
a ghost cant be removed if there is no other image showing same place without the ghost.
if sometzhing is removed by autopano you wanna keep, use the green dots...

in general one dot per ghost should work. If not add more ...

it was posted on forum (by kolor member) that in general the masking tool is applicable on moving objects and less on static objects.

if you try to solve issues like in screenshot, I think doing it by editing CPs & optimizing them is more successful...

For the previous post issue, this is clearly an issue with CP not with ghost at all. CP will help to register both parts together.

In panos such as this one though, despite the fact that the root cause of the problem is a "poor" stitch, and there are no ghosts as such, there are some instances where it would be much simpler to clean things up with a mask, than worry about manually setting control points.

For example. Imagine a scenario where an upper photo has the top section of a building and a load of sky, and the lower photo has the entire building in it. If there are stitching errors on the building between the two photos, it is much simpler and quicker to be able to mask out the building in the upper shot, rather than go in a manually add more control points. This is especially the case when you are working with potentially 100's or even 1,000's of photos.
