[APG-2.6.4 64b Linux] Photoshop PSB files not compatible to PS CS6

Dear Support,

just created a 210 picture x 36 MP = 5.7 GP panorama written to Photoshop Large Binary
Format (.psb). The Pano rendering machine is running Ubuntu Linux 64bit, 128 GByte RAM,
32 Cores and AutoPano 2.6.4 64bit.

Photoshop Version:

  - Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1 20120808.r.519 2012/08/08:21:00:00) x64
  - Operating System: Mac OS 10.7.4

reports a non-supported file format.

The exact error when trying to open the .psb file is: "Could not complete your request because
the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop".

Is there any other way (apart from using the GigaPan Stitcher which is not the preferred solution)
to create a 6 GP panorama and allow editing/adjusting in Photoshop later?

Thanks, -MN

Hi Morgennebel! (is that your name?cool)

I use .psb files all the time when i render a gigapixel pano with APG. It never failed with Photoshop - neither in CS5 nor in CS6 on my MacPro.

So i think we can exclude a CS6 issue here as well as an APG issue . . . (i don´t know much about Linux - i use MasOS 10.6.8.)

Download the free XnView app and look whether it can open the file!

best and good luck, Klaus

PS: is that a repeating issue?

Hi,

just installed Photoshop Ext. CS4 and tried to open the .psb file - same error.

Klaus, are you saving to .psb 8 bit or .psb 16 bit files?

Thanks, -MN

In the gigapixel range i usually save 8bit files.

best, Klaus

Re-rendering the same project in 8 bit. Let's see on Monday when the rendering machine is finished with the job,
I'll report the results.

Thank you for the help,

Ciao, -MN

Re: [APG-2.6.4 64b Linux] Photoshop PSB files not compatible to PS CS6

Hi Morgennebel,

We ran a test this night on a quite large panorama, rendering under Linux 64-bits (PSB 16 bits and PSD 8 bits).
The 2 files opened well in both photoshop CS4 & CS5 (still not tested under CS6).

Did you check some options in the rendering dialog box ?
By the way, what is the hardware configuration of your Mac ? As the psb file might be very large, it will need important resources to enable edition in Photoshop.

Regards,
Thomas

One common issue with PSB : if the drive runs out of space, the PSB can be truncated. Or this file has some important part at the end. It could explain why it doesn't open anymore.
