The optimization of the control points is not stable:
If it is re-optimized several times (settings for GIGA) the result is getting worse!
Starting with a excellent RMS of 1.00
Then re-optimize the pano with GIGA default settings will result in an RMS of 2.30 and a bad focal length
Once again re-optimize will result in an RMS of 3.99 and totally wrong focal length of 309mm instead of 600mm
Sometimes, the optimization goes totally crazy, like in image 4. CP's are ok, default GIGA settings.
It loses the vertikal links and paste each line to a single pano.

same with A2?

Unfortunately, yes!
After a first attempt, which is not happening with 3.0 Alpha 2, I now have the problem again in 3.0 Alpha 2.
It happens with all the optimization settings, with "GIGA" and also "Strong" or a customer setting without lens distortion correction.
Start with a RMS of 1.00, then after three to five new optimizations the Panorama goes crazy. RMS at 13 and focal legth completely wrong.
Previously reported from Ronald with older versions.

Hi Lumelix.
i too had some problem with (manual added) control points and optimization. After optimizing my control points simply disappeared. Have seen this on apg 3a1 and 3a2.
What solved the problem for me ... i switched the optimization parameters from "keep lower than ..." or "remove bigger than ..." to "keep 50 / 100 / 200 best control points".
Does it help in your case?

Hi Chris
No, same problem. I try out all options, also deactivate the clean CP option.
I guess in your case, the links was worse than the limit in settings, and were thus immediately erased.
In that case you have to turn off the CP cleaner first. Then have a look about the rms values in the CP list.
But as Ronald has posted, after restart APG, sometimes it goes for some optimizations, and then start again make trouble.
It looks like there is a hidden bug in the algorithm.
However, it appears that optimization is much faster than before. That's the good news ![]()

Yes, this has been the problem. I don´t have a nodal mounting, so i simply use an ordinary tripod head. And by this my control points get really ugly
and must be heavily hand edited. Even the hand added points have values of 20, 30. But the resulting gigapanos look really great, no really disturbing stitching errors. It is my "learning phase" now.

The cleaner can be turned off completey? Hmm, seems i have overseen this option. Must have a closer look to the optimizer preferences ...

Hi Chris
Yes, you could deactivate CP cleaning in the setting box of the editor (see image below) or general in the main setting box.

Ta-daaa. Need better glasses. Just below this setting i often use the "keep only the N best control points". Funny.
