Need HELP! :) How to stitch flat artwork!!!!

Hi, I purchased this product in the hopes that it would be better at stitching together flat artwork so I wouldn't have to spring for Photoshop just to get their Photomerge.

So, I'm scanning flat artwork (400 dpi, rgb Tiff format 100% scale)  in anywhere from two to 6 or 8 scans (with the requisite overlaps needed for the stitching). What I used to do in Photoshop was just choose the images, then hit go. The software would stitch it together and I'd be on my way.

However, there's so many controls here that I'm lost. When I try to move the images they distort as if they're going in perspective. The trick would be to negate the horizon so that nothing points there, and thus, distorts like it's in perspective. How does one do that?

Anyway, I hope there is someone who can help me out. I'm sure there's an easy solution to this. After all, I'm asking the software to actually do less work, it would seem.

I look forward to hearing from someone!

Thanks!

George

Hi,
Flat scan stitching is often done with a trick : set the focal length to 1000mm in autopano. With that trick, everything does work flawlessly.

Thanks for the reply!

Would I add that 1000mm in the "Settings" dialogue under "Images"? "Always force the following Exif value..." ?

And do I just keep everything else default, changing only the output dpi?

My scans are 400 dpi RGB Tiff files.

Thanks for your help!

Best,
George

the "Always force the following Exif value" means that if set now and in future all images you load into autopano will get these values assigned, no difference if the images have no EXIF data or if they do have EXIF data... so in most cases this is not what you want...

Re: Need HELP! :) How to stitch flat artwork!!!!

about dpi...

in my example the source jpgs have 72dpi... so autopano (I asume) did set per default the 72dpi too.
for testing the render I would use the 0-100% slidecontrol. to speed up testing. If result is satisfying than the 100% render for the final panorama...
and depending of the final output target I would change the dpi also. if the pano is for a online tour (panotour/krpano etc) than other size than 72dpi is less useful.

Re: Need HELP! :) How to stitch flat artwork!!!!

I bought Autopano after a long evaluation, it seem to me to be the most professional, taking into account all aspects of making one picture out of a sum of various shots.

My Problem: So I am very astonished, that there is no menu option for the perhaps simpliest task, to stich planar scans out of a flatbedscanner (original aquarel paintings of the size A2 - A3). I did try different things as well setting the focal lenght to the max. 10000mm. There is no infinity value, therefore there is no seamless fusion of the pictures! Can anybody help?
Thank you very much. When does come the promised update for this point?

Spanjack,

Member since a day and already very asthonished that "a long evaluation" did not make clear that you can only type in 10000 and not infinite.
We have not seen any of the photos you used nor the troublesome fusion that you speak about.
Can you show us the photos you used and the result you get?
