Kolor discontinues the resale of Girocam: here is why

Monday 29 October 2012

Kolor offers image-stitching software, virtual tour software, panoramic photography hardware.Kolor decided to stop the resale of the Girocam 360-degree camera. Learn hereinafter why we took this decision.

What is Girocam?

The Girocam solution is meant to create quick 360° panoramas thanks to a 3-fisheye camera and an automatic image-stitching application. The solution is made up of:

- the “one-shot” Girocam camera, manufactured by Giroptic company,
- a bundled automatic image-stitching software application, Girocam Studio, developed by Kolor.

Why stopping the resale of Girocam?

Although the Girocam answered the needs of customers wishing to create quick and easy virtual tours, it appeared that the manufacturer couldn’t reach the quality of service that we are used to at Kolor:

- the manufacturer did not honor the deliveries of our latest orders,

We have been looking for a solution for several months and we now have come to the point where we have no option but to discontinue the sale of the Girocam solution on our Kolor website. The product is however still available on Girocam’s website.

I have a Girocam. How can I get technical support?

Kolor is committed to a high level of customer service. Even if we are now stopping the sale of Girocam, our team will continue to take care of the technical support related to Girocam Studio software. All requests related to the hardware itself have to be sent to Giroptic.

What’s next?

There is a high expectation for 360-degree one-shot solutions. We will soon propose alternatives to the Girocam.

Peter, it’s not a product problem but a supplier problem. Of course, we tested the product before selling it.
The product itself answers the needs of many customers that are very happy with the ease of use and the simple workflow it offers. The problem came from the manufacturer that did not honor our latest orders and gave bad technical support to some customers.
