[Panotour Pro] Google stops the creation of new keys for Google Maps API for Flash: here’s what it means for you
Thursday 23 February 2012
Panotour Pro virtual tour creation software lets you embed Google Maps into your virtual tours. This option needs a free key generated by Google. Each key is restricted to your chosen websites.
We learned that Google has just interrupted the creation of new keys for Google Maps API for Flash.
This decision means that the virtual tours created from now on with Panotour Pro will no longer display Google Maps, except if you have an old key of Google Maps API for Flash.
We updated our website to reflect this change.
Fortunately, Panotour Pro also lets you generate a map based on OpenStreetMap, another mapping service, which is free and open-source. This is currently a hidden feature but here’s how to activate it:
- Activate Panotour Maps in the plugins
- Do not enter anything in the key field
- Export your tour.
If you would like to access the advanced features of the maps like adding a radar, then do as follows:
- Enter some text in the key field to activate the advanced options
- Set the radar and colors as you like
- Remove the text in the key field.
This is a trick to be able to generate a map based on OpenStreetMap with the current version. We are working on a quick update of Panotour Pro to make OpenStreeMap accessible more easily.

Unfortuately, OpenStreetView is not good for some areas or countries. I prefer Google Maps, but I can’t use this feature with PanoTour because I don’t have the key. In the future we may use Google Maps?
