Kolor Community,

Today, the team and I have the immense pleasure of announcing some big news in the Kolor adventure, a new chapter full of promise and excitement for the future:

We will be joining GoPro, enabler of some of today’s most engaging content and the creator of the world’s most versatile camera.

This is a unique opportunity to give professionals and casual users the chance to use the advanced technologies that Kolor develops. It also gives us the necessary support to fully commit ourselves toward what we’ve always believed to be the next digital revolution: immersive media. GoPro’s capture devices and Kolor’s software will combine to deliver exciting and highly accessible solutions for capturing, creating and sharing spherical content. The transaction is scheduled to close in May, when we’ll officially be part of GoPro.

A few months ago, we celebrated Kolor’s 10 years. Those 10 years were incredible; so many things have changed in the photo and video world: the hardware has changed, the software has changed, and even society has changed with the dominant use of imaging, everywhere. Kolor has helped to enable this evolution in the immersive media sector with panoramic imagery, virtual tours and 360° videos.

On behalf of the entire Kolor team, I’d like to thank our clients, partners and friends; from those who have accompanied us on this journey since the very beginning to those who have joined us recently. It’s thanks to you that we have been able to develop professional and accessible solutions for everyone to express their creativity. Your faith in us is important and makes us strive to improve each day.

Lastly, our professional software products that you use and enjoy will still be developed with the same focus on quality and performance. GoPro and Kolor share passions for beautiful images, innovation, quality and fun.

We are only at the beginning of the 360° adventure, and I can’t wait to share the future of immersive media with you.

Sincerely,
Alexandre Jenny
Senior Director Immersive Media Solutions @ GoPro
Founder of Kolor

I guess this secures the future of Kolor and allows you all to push the boundaries in what might be possible in the Virtual Reality media. I feel happy that a world renown company such as GoPro is now backing Kolor, which just goes to show the faith such a big company has in Kolor and its team. But on the same token I feel a bit teary knowing that Kolor has been taken over. I guess though, that must be a good thing, in the long term.. I just hope that the Kolor team are safe and looked after and never forgotten as they are the nuts and bolts in the development of all the Kolor software.. It must always be remembered that without the Kolor team, Kolor would not be the company it is today..

Well, this is interesting as GoPro has recently worked closely with 3DRobotics in development of the SOLO drone (to be released in June). So I am not certain about the last piece of the puzzle as to whether Kolor will play a role with that development.
